After Calgary Flames forward Martin Pospisil was ejected from Thursday night's game for elbowing defenceman Josh Morrissey, Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry called for the NHL to take action against the rookie.

"I think the Pospisil (hit) is in an entirely different category (of hits). He leaves his feet, drives up right into J-Mo's head," Lowry said Friday. "It's his third major penalty in two months, so at some point, the league needs to do something."

Pospisil’s hit came with 43 seconds remaining in the second period. He left his feet while going for an open-ice hit and got his elbow up near Morrissey's head. It was initially called a two-minute minor for elbowing, but after a review, the referees upgraded the call to a five-minute major and game misconduct.

You'd hope with repeated infractions in a short time frame, the penalties would start to get very severe. Look at a guy like Tom Wilson, who began facing crazy suspensions and doesn't seem to get them any more. Give serious enough penalties and players with either take notice or just get effectively suspended out of the league.

Tom Wilson?  The currently suspended Tom Wilson?  Him?

Ah - he just played last night.  Not suspended anymore!

haha I honestly don't really keep up with happenings outside of Canuck land. I just recall him getting constant suspensions and then nothing for a while. Evidently I'm just totally out of the loop I guess.

Scott stevens says it was a nothing hit

Of course he did. He made a living off those exact kinds of hits.

Again when he's not crossing the line I love the way Pospisil plays but he's gotta get back to the right side of the line this is happening far too often with him now.

Kids an asshole. He's trying to make his name by making dangerous plays.

We're looking at another Moore incident sooner rather than later if the league doesn't clean up the DOPS.  Sadly, the league's response will be to let Sutherland pull his usual BS during the next game between the two teams in order to further jeopardize player safety.  The league is criminally negligent here and needs to be forced to solve the problem by a judge.

That's the Bertuzzi incident, not the Moore incident.

That's 100% on Bertuzzi, not the league, not on moore.  Bert made an absolutely horrible, fateful decision and try and deflect responsibility for that onto any other party is ridiculous.

Moore doesn't have that happen if he either doesn't deliver the cheap shot in the first place or gets suspended.

Or, at the very least , fought Bert.

I appreciate Pospisil only because he’s on my bangers fantasy team, and gets me loads of PIM points.

Outside of that, he’s a dangerous player that needs to be dealt with. And if the league won’t do it, then they better shut up when the players take care of it.

Nick Cousins exists.  Don't forget that the guy who he HIT eventually got suspended (Guddy).

Steven's made a living hitting legally within the constraints of the rules back then.    "Trolly tracking", playing with your head down (unlike today), came at a pretty high cost.    Steven's wasn't Torres, as in charging half way across the rink to gain speed, and then jumping a meter to connect the best he could with contact to the head.    Steven's was all shoulder.    He wasn't flying elbowing anyone.
