I mean, I get it, but I don't see how they expected much more from the roster he had to work with 

 

They should be thanking him for a successful tank season, unless they really bolster it they'll probably get a similar result under a new coach next season

Any Senators will tell you that it is better to move on from a bad coach whether or not the team has any expectations.  Just because Ottawa was in a rebuild didn't mean DJ Smith was the right coach for that rebuild.

 

San Jose doesn't want to become the next Ottawa.

Am I the only one that doesn't think DJ Smith was really all that bad of a coach? They weren't good and they haven't been good for a while.
