Nevermind, it took me a half hour to find a reputable site but according to Bloomberg, this is a pre-planned Atlantic exercise, not a sabre-rattling peeved off Russia getting ready to escalate directly with the US...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-06-11/russian-warships-hold-drills-in-atlantic-ahead-of-visit-to-cuba?srnd=politics-vp

I got got.

Welp.  The US has poked the bear and after Ukraine launched a US missile recently into Russia, Russia is sending a message to the US that could turn into WW3 if things begin to snowball.

Ignore the words in the next tweet by the former Faux news producer.  I'm more interested in the embedded ABC News video from last week.  I had no idea that the White House had explicitly authorized missile strikes just inside the Russian border as long as it didn't get anywhere near Russia.  This is a dangerous and stupid game being played.

Guessing we aren’t heading for a second Cuban missed crisis.
One weak old man as president and one corrupt complicit old man running for President.

Trump would help them build silos, and then vilify and not pay the workers, Joe wouldn’t even know they were there.

I'm just hoping that the trending tweets are full of crap and it's just Twitter/X being idiotic.

I've seen bullsh*t topics and posts trend plenty of times.

The stupid music on an obvious old film of that boat is giving me hope that this is bullcrap and I'll just look silly at worst for posting this.  I'll happily take looking silly/stupid  over this mess that may be getting started.

Sure reminds me of ‘62. We just get the news faster. Pootin though lives the life of a king. He knows that is over if he sends even one missile into the US.

So US missiles are blowing up stuff inside Russia and Pootin does nothing. Give Ukraine more and bigger missiles. Blast Moscow. Blast Pootin.

No.  This is still to send a message to the US, but it was a pre-announced exercise.  That's much different than possibly a naval buildup 60 miles from Florida.

Biden has to tell Ukraine to stop shooting US supplied missiles into Russia.  I get why that would peeve them off.

The world (US included) allowed Hitler to abuse his neighbors.

Poutine Imperial Navy has troubles against a nation with no navy.   Pretty lackluster naval history going back to when Japan handed them their azz back in 1904 or 1905.

I'm not worried about a naval battle.  We'd mop the floor with Russia on water.

I'm worried about Putin taking the risk of launching a hypersonic missile over or near Florida as a warning shot and the White House decides to go tit for tat and do the same with a guided missile near Russia.  That stupidity could end up snowballing into a war with nuclear tipped ICBM's.

This time around the US is helping Ukraine by arming them so they can defend themselves.  Hitting Russian troops while they are inside Ukraine is more or less fair game.  Hitting Russia proper offensively with missiles is an entirely different animal.  That's an attempt to undermine Putin with his people and usurped Russian dictators don't usually fare well after they've been ousted.  So backed into a corner like that, he could decide to do something desperate and stupid.

No, I don't care if Russia is annoyed.  No reason for any Russian troops to be allowed to live in or outside Russia.  Ukraine is providing a service by exterminating them.

That is a pretty reckless statement. I don't side with the Russian (government) at all about their "military exercise", but extermination of an entire people? That's unacceptable by any standard.

Their military is not an entire people.  Neither Russia nor anyone in their military has a right to exist.

I don't want to get into a long protracted discussion about Ukraine, Russia, and international military conflicts, but Russia has already blurred the line of what constitutes "inside Ukraine" and what constitutes "Russia proper" by annexing parts of Ukraine.  The puta clown squad will find any justification to claim western ordnance was being used on the "motherland" regardless of where that ordnance was firing at, so as long as it's not like Moscow or Vladivostok that they're landing in, I think the countries of the west that are supplying the ordnance will have their own way to explain away the clown squad's accusations and unless they've truly lost their minds, the clowns won't push back (lest the west decide that Moscow is in fact an acceptable and legitimate target for their supplied ordnance as launched by Ukraine's military).

Anyways, this is my sole comment on the matter and I'll be recusing myself from further discussion on this.

I can't get Sean Connery out of my head.

Solid points.  I prefer to be more cautious.  My judgment may also be affected though considering my entire childhood and most of my teen years were spent worrying about the USSR lobbing nukes our way.

Like I've said before, I still on rare occasions will have a nightmare about this stuff.  Fortunately I am often lucid enough in my dreams to wake up shortly after they start.

Great movie!  I think that's the first movie I saw with Alec Baldwin.
