Popular Post RWJC Posted June 14 Popular Post Posted June 14 Canucks Rumors: Vancouver interested in signing Brandon Duhaime Shane Seney Friday, June 14, 2024 According to Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks had interest in trading for Brandon Duhaime last season and will be interested in signing the free-agent forward come July 1 when free agency opens. Duhaime spent the majority of last season with the Minnesota Wild and was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, but unfortunately in Denver, wasn't able to make an impact down the stretch and into the playoffs. Duhaime ended the year with 13 points in 80 games and one goal during 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games. The Canucks are interested because Duhaime can be effective on the fourth line. He plays the game tough, kills penalties, isn't afraid of dropping the gloves and can chip in here and there with some offense. His defensive awareness is where he does shine, however. “The Canucks had big interest in Minnesota Wild Forward Brandon Duhaime at the trade deadline, and I am told today the interest has not gone away. He would be a great fit in the fourth line… Kills penalties, energy, tough, sticks up for teammates, he can fight. Keep an eye on Duhaime and the Canucks if he hits July 1st.” The Avalanche traded a third-round pick to land Duhaime but appear to be moving on. Last season the 27-year-old forward made $1.1 million and is likely going to see a very similar AAV on his next contract. The Canucks are a team to watch this offseason as changes are on the way. Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm appear to be hitting the open market, the team is trying to trade for Jake Guentzel's signing rights and defenseman Filip Hronek could be available on the trade market. GM Patrik Allvin loves to make trades so expect lots of action out of Vancouver this summer. https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2024/06/canucks-rumors-vancouver-interested-in.html 5 Quote
Coconuts Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Lower end Joshua replacement? I remember the rumour being that Minny's ask was high and that plenty of teams were interested. He'll probably garner quite a bit of UFA interest if true. 1 Quote
Integra250 Posted June 14 Posted June 14 No brainer signing if we want a tougher and grittier bottom six. 3 Quote
Don Brodka Jr Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Dakota Joshua 2.0? Quick! Lock him up long term. Give him the Jay Beagle or Antoine Roussel deal! What could go wrong! Quote

Popular Post CanuckMan Posted June 14 Popular Post Posted June 14 To be honest I’d rather have him on the 4th line than the likes of PDG, Aman, etc. Brandon would be an impact player in the bottom 6. Definitely interested to have a heavier and more physical bottom 6 because our top 6 can be considered some what soft and small. 2 3 Quote

The article said his number should be around 1.1 million. Beagle and roussel were 3 million when the capwas much lower. Big difference there. 1 Quote

Can't predict injuries when signing players. 4 Quote

If he can go out and hit, fight occasionally, provide energy, skate well, and not take dumb penalties than he's doing what a lower end Joshua would do. He's also 6'2" and roughly 200 pounds whereas Joshua is the same size but lighter. Edited June 14 by Coconuts Quote
boziffous Posted June 14 Posted June 14 He could replace Joshua's physical play but he would likely only put up around 15 to 20 points. More speed, size and physical play in the bottom 6 is always a good thing and something the Canucks could use more of. 2 Quote

Coconuts Posted June 14 Posted June 14 (edited) Joshua put up 244 hits in 63 games, good enough for the ninth most hits this season. Duhaim put up 208 in 80 games. Bit of a drop off in terms of hits per game, sure. If it's a physical player you want though, he'll do. 201 hits in 80 games for the Wild in 2021-2022. 146 hits in 56 games in 2022-2023. 208 hits for the Wild and Avs in 2023-2024. Averages out to probably hitting roughly 200+ hits across each full season if he's healthy. https://www.quanthockey.com/hockey-stats-nhl/en/profile.php?player=48348 What's really impressive is Nashville's Jeremy Lauzon leading the hit parade with 387 hits in 79 games as a D. garthsbutcher Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Both he and Dhillon would be nice physical additions 1 Quote

JeremyCuddles Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Definitely looks more like a 4th line guy than a Joshua replacement. Duhaime's ice time plummeted in the playoffs compared to his regular season deployment. Which already wasn't much. Will fill the 4th line/depth player role. A cheaper Lafferty from the looks of it. Although it'd be nice if we could get Lafferty back on the cheap. But my guess is he chases the bag like Motter did. Quote
