RWJC Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Ex-Kraken Wennberg Reveals Desires As Unrestricted Free Agent Seattle Received 2nd & 4th Round Picks From Rangers At Trade Deadline Former Seattle Kraken Alex Wennberg relocated cross-country at the March 9 trade deadline. If he has his way, Wennberg won't be on the move again this summer. When the New York Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs, the team's social media posted a short dressing room interview with Wennberg. He's a pending unrestricted free agent. Regarding his Big Apple transition after being dealt by Seattle, Wennberg said, "It's been awesome. Obviously, disappointed with the ending, but time's been fine here. Coming to a good team, meeting new guys, being a part of the New York Rangers was amazing, really positive." Former Seattle Kraken Alex Wennberg relocated cross-country at the March 9 trade deadline. Coming to a good team, meeting new guys, being a part of the New York Rangers was amazing, really positive." The highlight of Wennberg's short tenure in New York was his overtime goal in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Florida Panthers. As it turned out, that would be the Blueshirts' last victory of the season. The Panthers eliminated the Rangers in six games. Overall, in 34 combined regular season and playoff games, the center contributed two goals and five assists. "The production wasn't really there for me. We did good things, but for me to have that (OT winner) to look back on is going to be a good memory." Many in New York media have speculated Wennberg could be a casualty of a Rangers numbers crunch, both in terms of roster construction and salary cap space. "Despite a lack of offensive production, Wennberg seemed to be a good fit with the Rangers," wrote Forever Blueshirts. "He was a key penalty killer and filled the third-line center role which was an area that New York was desperately searching for prior to the deadline because of Filip Chytil’s injury absence. With Chytil now healthy, there may not be a spot for Wennberg on this roster." https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/seattle-kraken/players/ex-kraken-wennberg-reveals-desires-as-unrestricted-free-agent Quote
RWJC Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 (edited) Great PKer. Wonder if he's on our radar, or we're on his, as a potential 3/4 C. FOW was only 46.5% though. Edited June 17 by RWJC Quote
Provost Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Probably too rich for our blood. At a likely much cheaper deal we could Re-sign Blueger. Quote
-Buzzsaw- Posted June 17 Posted June 17 If the Canucks cannot sign Lindholm, then Wennberg might be in the mix as they will have $ available. He wouldn't replace Lindholm in the top six, but he could add depth at center in the bottom six. Quote
Diamonds Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I like the player, but likely to be too expensive for what his role would be in this team. He's had one season where he produced as a top 6 center, but most of his career his production has been more in line with high end 3rd line center. He's coming off a deal with a $4.5M cap hit and I wouldn't be surprised if he's hoping to make more. He would likely help our PK, but too much money for a position we can fill much cheaper. Quote
Ghostsof1915 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 So what's worse? Overpaying for Lindholm or overpaying for Wennberg? This is going to be an interesting offseason. 1 Quote
JeremyCuddles Posted June 17 Posted June 17 No value for us. Better off just bringing back Blueger. Quote
48MPHSlapshot Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I'd rather try and resign Blueger. He'll be cheaper and is a pretty good fit here. 2 1 Quote
Alflives Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Should Alf point out AGAIN this guy is a left shot? We will have zero interest. 1 Quote

We will have no interest in any left shot centres. It’s more likely we trade Garland, the concrete garden gnome, for Pageau than sign another left shot centre. 1 Quote

Not many out there though in ufa land worth their salt. 1 Quote

Which is why old drunk furry arsed Alf wouldn’t be too shocked if we trade Garland for Pageau. We need that third line right shot, pk, shut down centre a lot more than Garden gnome. Even if he’s concrete. Quote

We will have interest in who and what we can afford and gives us the best ability to compete. A right shot C might be ideal, but there’s a number of other clubs looking for the same thing. Maybe think about why Lindy doesn’t want to extend with us…because he’s a rare bird and will command $ for the reason you mention. As such, other teams’ price points will likely be high on RHC’s too. But IMHAO JR/PA would rather allocate five mil x 2 to Pageau (a very good right shot 3C) than to Garland who is a good winger but doesn’t pk or pp. Quote

A very solid defensive center who can PK and is a right shot Quote
