Once again why isn't retention an option? Retain $1.75 million, at $3.0 million for 2 years. He was on pace for mid-40ish points before his injury.

Change of scenery might do him good? San Jose could probably use an experienced winger.

Canucks don't want to retain or add sweeteners to a Mikheyev trade.  They would prefer him to be off the books but weakening the team in other ways is just not worth it.  A buyout is out of the question as well.  He does a lot of things well and improves team speed but has difficulty scoring and has lost his confidence finishing.

Mikheyev would like a resolution and apparently doesn't see himself as a bottom 6 player.  So, Allvin has granted his agent, Dan Millstein permission to find a trade partner

When has it ever worked out for our GM to give agents permission to find a trade partner. With Boeser and Garland, it just made them realize nobody wanted them, so they grinded it out in Vancouver until their game picked up again. Maybe that's the point?

He's anything but slow.....and the nets too small for him.

His hands aren't as fast as his feet is a BIG part of his problem.

If he was around 2.5 million per, then we could justify him just for defensive play, but at 4.75, he really needs to contribute offense.

Exactly.  I wonder if, with an offseason of shooting or whatever practice and play on the same line as Garland, I wonder if he could recoup his form.

Maybe see if Chicago would be interested. Something along the lines of: Garland + Mikeyev + Hirose

For Maybe a 3rd + $10 million in cap space.

The money can be used to say sign Guentzel. Hirose I don't see a future with the Canucks.  I don't think he's bumping pettersson( if he hits hus potential) and Hughes.

I’d do this only because after possibly signing Guentzel I’d like the Canucks to find a solid cheap top 6 option on top of that! Maybe Arvidsson for cheap! Pipe dream would be adding Guentzel and I really like Debrusk! He’s fast and can put the puck in the net! In Debrusk’s past 2 playoff runs he’s got 17 points in 20 games! He can play that style and still produce points. If you can get Debrusk around 4.5 he’d look good with Miller and Boeser!

Agreed. Debrusk could be an excellent fit. Would you take  Arvidsson and Debrusk over Guentzel if they were the same cap hit?

Tough question you’d be gambling on Arvidsson’s health to produce all year in your top 6. However I would do it because then you don’t have a Pius Suter being a black hole for offence in your top 6. Diluting the top end skill but making your team a little deeper by having another top 6 caliber player. Also wouldn’t have Guentzel’s last couple years of his contract where he slows down and it’s a negative contract.

I agree. I like having more depth pieces on shorter term and lower cap hits. Plus there are younger players coming up that may push for spots.
