Tampa Bay play on the entirely separate yet very prestige "Gary Bettman USA A-OK Salary Cap System" just like Vegas.. They'll balance it all out with an "Injury" or two as the season goes on.. Even if they have to deliberately bash Erik Cernak's knee!

That's probably poor wording by Friedman.  I don't believe arbitration dates happen until later this month and into August.  This is simply a re-signing by TBL.

 

The overall cap hit sounds about right, and might actually be a tad low for a 25 to 30 point defenceman that is only 24 years old.  That 2nd year at $4.05M is deliberate to make sure the next deal will be in range of what he will be looking for longer term.

I get that second year being up towards his want for his next deal.  But not hard to be a 25 to 30 point defenceman on a team that doesn't play defence with a big minus attached.  Very different to be a quality defenceman earning that second pair money by next year.

Easy or hard... he did it.  Numbers speak volumes in arbitration.  He would have got something along this deal anyways.  Saves the relationship damage an arbitration can do between team and player.

Nothing was made easy for Moser with Arizona last year. Toughest overall deployment of any defenseman on the team by a pretty wide margin.
