the online money?

TheBearded1

Recommended Posts

I keep getting influencers on my FB feeds telling me how easy it is to make $$ online.  Is it really that easy?   I asked one of them and they just said, "you get paid per view".

1.  Who's paying who here?

2.  What's the product people are buying or selling?   I get a view for picking my nose and get $0.00001: but I didn't sell anything?  If META is going to pay me money "per view or click or whatever", where is their money coming from?  Why would they pay me to have someone watch me hammer a nail into a piece of wood?

3.  Are people actually getting paid for hooking up a gopro to their cat or showing the world they can light thing on fire?

There's a lot of misinformation - sometimes deliberately given. As far as I know, for platforms like Youtube, advertisements are your main source of income. Youtube does pay money per view, but you'll need A LOT of views to get to that point.

And no, it's not THAT easy to make money.

As I approach pending retirement I am looking more and more at remote work so I can travel and still make some money.  There are legitimate ways to do it........for me, it's mostly around teaching or writing copy etc.

I don't know much about how Tiktok works (and I feel the OP post is a little vague about what's being asked here) but on Youtube, you get measly sums of money for views and most of the money tends to come from endorsements of sponsors, Patreon, merch sales, etc. In order to get those streams of income you have to have content people want to watch.

It's seemed that influencers advertising this stuff are likely sponsored in some way depending on how that video is. If it's encouraging you to do things a specific way, it's likely sponsored. It may also be one of those pyramid schemes, which is also something to watch out for.

So, can you make money online? Yes. Is it "easy money"?... that part's a little more questionable and likely worded to make you want to do it more.

join the tik tok cult,

you make loads and get to live in a mansion. 🥳
caveat: price is your soul.

double caveat: you need to be the one in a million wannabe influencers that actually gets enough views to make the money.
Stawns was kind of right, you might get 0.00000001 cents a view, so if you think you are the 1 in a billion people who can generate those views: you can make money doing this. hahahaha...if you are the rest of us, your just a viewer in disguise.

edit: Influencers=pyramid scheme? lol

If you are really talented at something that few can do, you can make some decent coin. This young lady has been entertaining folks down in Southern California since she was around 9 years old ( she is either 15 or 16 now). Latest pay schedule for music / entertainment is around .01 per thousand views. She is also busking while her father records the videos so she has two streams of income and her estimated net worth as of 2024 is over 2 million.

Try looking at teaching English as a foreign language.

You need to do a course, but lots of opportunities

I have a DJ/Producer page on Youtube..I've been working on it for yrs..I'm close to monetization but it is tedious work..1st you have to have your own work, No copyright material what so ever..As a DJ trust me that makes the job much much harder..Not even a sample..So I have to record, Produce , mix , master my own material.. I really don't have much of a choice either as I really don't have much else to fall back on since I lost my job around Covid..No other degree except courses in audio engineering..You have to be mentally tough, Instead of 8 hrs a day you have to think about it at a buss. You're the owner/operator, manager/distributor..Be expected to be stressed and tired the fuck out....I hope it pans out . DJing is getting me by but I am getting up there in age to understand this crap on radio nowadays...So I stick to weddings which is mostly seasonal.

Most of these so called 'influencers' get product placements either because they have great content of just have half nekkid pics of them splattered all over with 450K dudes following them..People that actually have talent have to work super hard to showcase their talent against competition with millions of others...

All that extra money isn't all it's made out to be also via donations , merch and all that stuff..You need people interested enough in you to buy it, Just ask yourself when did you actually buy a shirt or mug from someone you clicked on.

Good for you man. I really admire people with audio engineering (I love music, but I am untrained musically). If you play your cards right, you really can do something with that.

Competition is everywhere, regardless of what industry.

Influencers on your feed trying to tell you how easy it is to make money online are likely trying to sell you a 'class' on their 'method' for making money online. I woud be weary of them.

That said, many people do make money with video content. From a hobby that helps support itself for a few hundred bucks a month, to full-time jobs making thousands or tens of thousands per month.

Video sites like Youtube have a creator monitization program. Your video channel has to have a certain number of views and reach a few other metrics before you're eligable. Then when a company offers youtube money to put their ads on the site, a portion is shared with each creator who enables ads on their video. It's a small amount, but if you're publishing weekly videos with 100,000 or more views it can turn into a sizable income.

Most channels on Youtube will never reach the monitization metrics, and most that do will only generate a small amout of money. But for some, it can turn into a full time job. It is not easy and there is a lot of luck involved, but it is possible.
