HKSR Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Seeing Laine setup that mental health foundation could be a sign that he's finally maturing. If he is, then Montreal will be laughing with their new sniper in the lineup. 1 Quote

fuzzy Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Interesting trade for the Habs. Picked up a lottery ticket in Laine. Interesting to see how he fits. Quote

cripplereh Posted August 19 Posted August 19 I always like Montreal's history. If this works out it is a big step for them moving forward. They had cap room now just need a couple more pieces to get back to glory days. If not least they are trying hard to improve . Quote

Habs fleeced the hell out of CBJ. Laine was only ever a top 5 scorer once in his career and that was 6 years ago. Fairly low risk gamble but I would be surprised if he becomes the scorer he was. He hasn’t put in the work to keep up with the leuage. 2 1 Quote

MeanSeanBean Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Good for the Habs, this could turn out to be a homerun. 1 2 Quote

Well he only has two years left so that’s where the low gamble comes in. Im just not sure the Habs are a team that’s ready to spend right to the cap. This kinda limits them making moves to upgrade obvious needs. 1 Quote
Provost Posted August 19 Posted August 19 This seems like a massive amount of risk. 1. Montreal is probably the most brutal market in the league to play in regards to the attention and negativity that can come your way. 2. No retention means he has to live up to his huge contract or be ripped apart by fans and media 3. He is just coming out of the player assistance program for mental health reasons. To me, that is the worst place for him to land. Go to Carolina or San Jose... anywhere that you can be anonymous and hardly anyone cares about hockey. 1 2 Quote

Give it two years and then maybe they are in a spot to spend and have a good playoff team.Or be like the Sens and wait and wait . 1 Quote

Columbus dumped all of Laine and got a young D man for a second rounder two years down the road. Great job by their GM. 1 Quote
