RWJC Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Blues D Krug to undergo ankle surgery; miss 2024-25 season St. Louis Blues defenceman Torey Krug will undergo surgery to address pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and miss the entire 2024-25 season. The Blues previously announced that Krug had been diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes, stating in July that he would miss the season if surgery proved necessary. Krug, 33, is on the fifth year of a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with an annual cap hit of $6.5 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 campaign. The 5-foot-9 left-shot defenceman recorded four goals and 39 points in 77 games last season. St. Louis reportedly had a deal in place to send Krug to the Philadelphia Flyers last off-season, but he elected not to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate the deal. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Boston Bruins in March of 2012, Krug has 89 goals and 483 points in 778 career games split between the Bruins and Blues. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/st-louis-blues-d-torey-krug-to-undergo-ankle-surgery-miss-2024-25-season-1.2168720 1 Quote
RWJC Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 (edited) Wonder how STL will weaponize that 6.5 mill in space. Perhaps take on a Kadri or someone similar? Rumour has it they tried to trade for Weegar from CGY prior to the EDM offer sheets. Edited September 3, 2024 by RWJC Quote

Don't think Kadri would work, they've gotta assume Krug will play again at some point given he's got three seasons left on his deal They could use a better 2C than Schenn though, certainly Blues are in a weird place though, they've been bolstering their prospect pool in recent years and seem to be in more of a retool, but they're also probably firmly behind Dallas, Winnipeg, Colorado, and now maybe even Nashville in the central Gotta wonder if they don't just sit on the space and eat expiring deals at the deadline if they're out of it in order to acquire picks/prospects/young NHL'ers 1 Quote

And Winnipeg I'm not sold on them just yet. I think the Blues can compete with Nashville and Winnipeg I do agree with you they could have an upgrade at 2C but, their overall forward group I really like Quote

CanuckMan Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 That offer sheet might have been because they knew about this injury. Broberg will definitely see regular ice time. 1 Quote
