Popular Post -dlc-
So rather than create a thread for each, there have been a few notable developments in the music world and I thought it would be good to have a thread for these events. Of course, Taylor Swift backing Harris (despite going against her friend, Brittany). Shake if off, Donald. And other, rather shocking (for me) news about Dave Grohl and his new baby. Delivered by someone other than his wife of many years. Sigh, why Dave? You're one of the good guys. Lastly, this really awesome story about Jon Bon Jovi. I know he's been known to do charitable acts but this level of interaction saved someone's life. And he is amazing for doing this. https://people.com/jon-bon-jovi-saves-woman-in-crisis-on-bridge-new-video-footage-8710714 5

Ballisticsports
I wouldn't say they did poorly, There was A LOT of good music during their heyday from world bands, with new releases each day (still stations that only play those era's) I had seen lots of their concerts, before having a member live behind me, Lol I remember one year (long ago) he was on his balcony relaxing in the summer, and I cranked up my Trooper play list and left, he phoned me about 3/4 hour later and asked me to turn it off I said something to the effect im not at home, You want me to PLEASE COME HOME?, IT hasn't BEEN A LONG TIME, I was just having SOME GOOD CLEAN FUN and RAISING A LIL HELL, I'll be back as soon as THE MOMENT THAT IT TAKES me to return 2

I prefer General Hand Grenade, or Santa Maria. (which BTW, was written right here in Prince Rupert) Others I've played are Raise a Little Hell, Real Canadians, Loretta, Boys in the Bright White Sports Car and Two For the Show....Fun fact: The opening solo from Two For the Show was played by Randy Bachman, who produced the album. (Not sure what Smitty was doing that day) Here's an underappreciated cut from their first album:
nuckin_futz
Not exactly a 'rock star' but a musician and a member of a pretty influential music family. Tito Jackson, Founding Member of the Jackson 5, Dies at 70 Tito Jackson, who along with brothers Michael, Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon was a founding member of the iconic family group the Jackson 5, died Sunday at age 70. News of the death was first reported by Entertainment Tonight, which said word of Tito’s passing came from Steve Manning, a longtime friend and associate of the Jackson family. Manning told ET that he believed Tito suffered a heart attack while driving on a road trip, adding that the cause of death was officially undetermined. People magazine confirmed the news with Tito’s nephew, SIggy Jackson. more in link https://www.yahoo.com/news/tito-jackson-founding-member-jackson-053536187.html

They are both content now to play out their years with guaranteed sellout money venue after venue. Don't get me wrong, I love the Cult, from the Death Cult days to now, but they realize their livelihoods depend on selling out a venue and delivering the product. Here in Victoria the only tickets left were incredibly expensive, like 1100 bucks when i looked. Must have been backstage passes? Also, kind of expected behaviour from Farrell isn't it? In light of the drama that took place over the weekend, Jane's Addiction has canceled the rest of its 2024 and announced a hiatus in a new statement. During the band's performance in Boston on Sept. 13, frontman Perry Farrell had a confrontation with guitarist Dave Navarro that turned physical. The singer was escorted off the stage by crew members, and the band issued a statement apologizing for the incident on social media the next day. In the post, the group announced the cancelation of their Sept. 15 show in Bridgeport, Connecticut. However, in two new statements the band shared on social media today (Sept. 16), they've canceled the rest of the tour and revealed that they are taking a break as a band. "To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour," the statement reads, adding that refunds will be given to ticket holders at the point of purchase. A second statement was shared in a post on Navarro's personal Instagram, signed by himself, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins. "Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current U.S. tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs," the post reads. "We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken." 1

RupertKBD
"irreconcilable differences" between Kevin Cronin and Bruce Hall have caused REO Speedwagon to announce that next year will be their last as a touring act: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/entertainment/music/heartbroken-reo-speedwagon-to-quit-touring-in-2025/ar-AA1qImxk?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=e502b89408b64811a979f898e15da632&ei=22 Quote REO Speedwagon says the band will end its touring days at the end of this year, blaming irreconcilable differences between members bassist Bruce Hall and vocalist Kevin Cronin. The 1960s rock outfit best known for hits like Can’t Stop This Feeling Anymore , Keep on Loving You , Roll With the Changes and many more, addressed the reasons for the split in a post to their official website telling fans a “ complex situation” arose between Hall and Cronin as the former recovered from back surgery. After Hall stepped away last fall, Matt Bissonette replaced him as part of the touring group. But Hall only intended his absence to be temporary. “I f it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it’s not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect,” the quintet wrote in a statement. I give the boys credit for lasting as long as they did, (especially Cronin, who could still hit all the notes) but for my money, they were never the same after guitarist Gary Richrath passed away....
RupertKBD
This should go in the Notable Passings thread, but it also belongs here. Longtime Eagles collaborator, JD Souther has passed away. Quote John David “JD” Souther, a prolific songwriter and musician who helped shape the country-rock sound that took root in Southern California in the 1970s with his collaborations with the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, has died at the age of 78. Souther, who collaborated on some of the Eagles' biggest hits, such as “Best of My Love," “James Dean,” "New Kid in Town," and “Heartache Tonight,” died Tuesday at his home in New Mexico, according to an announcement on his website. 6of1_halfdozenofother
Not really a rockstar in the conventional sense, but this guy was anything but conventional. Quote Vancouver sushi chef who invented California roll reflects on career By Lauren Stallone Posted September 26, 2024 9:04 pm. Last Updated September 27, 2024 7:36 am. For 36 years, Tojo’s Restaurant has been a mainstay in the Vancouver food scene, beloved by critics, foodies, and a plethora of celebrities. The restaurant’s popularity is all thanks to Michelin Star chef Hidekazu Tojo, who helped bring sushi to the mainstream with the invention of the California roll. Tojo says when he moved to Vancouver, he was in search of a sushi roll that would appeal to Canadians. “I came in 1971, long time ago, 53 years ago,” he said. “People said, ‘oh Tojo, no seaweed, Canadian people, they don’t eat sushi,’ OK, so maybe I’ll make it inside out and hide it — slowly, slowly grew, and then after a few years it was everywhere.” And that is how the California roll was born — but to Tojo, this iconic roll goes by a different name. “They call it a California roll, but at that time, I called it ‘Inside out.'” Now in his 70s, Chef Tojo is looking back on his life and the legacy he will one day leave behind through his upcoming feature documentary, The Chef and the Daruma. The film tells a story of immigration, identity, and reinvention through different dishes, as Tojo recalls his early years as a Japanese immigrant. Going forward, Tojo says he plans to keep cooking. “Because people, until [they] die, you know…eat.” The Chef and the Daruma premieres at the Vancouver International Film Festival on Oct. 6. https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/09/26/vancouver-sushi-tojo-restaurant-california-roll-film/ https://players.brightcove.net/593482582001/PoiWOAAOT_default/index.html?videoId=6362520908112 Edited September 27 by 6of1_halfdozenofother added video URL
