Rocket-68
It has been a slow Saturday and lazy one to boot. So to spice things up a bit, wanted to start an appreciation of Brad "The Rat" Marchand ... on how hard he has been hit back in the day. You can almost see The Rat's soul leave his body for a second in this clip. I will start .. As an added bit of fun, can also post here clips of your favorite hits ... of course, posting one that staples The Rat is the goal but any big hit is welcome. Coconuts
I appreciate that I've never heard anything negative about him off the ice, and that he does kind things for people despite being a heel on the ice https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/glen-mcminn-brad-marchand-jake-thibeault-hockey-player-fundraiser-painting-1.6693909 And his willingness to do nice things for fans for no reason I also appreciate him being part of the leadership that pushed back against Bruins management after the disastrous signing of Mitchell Miller 1

He would have made a good canuck. Fuck Marchand IRL. No cap!

Curmudgeon
Ask yourself this: it's the trade deadline and Marchand, wanting one more shot at a Stanley Cup, demands and is granted a trade to Vancouver. Yea or nay? If you say nay, then you've never forgiven the anguish he cause in 2011. If you say yea, then you recognize that even though he may be a jerk, he's s really good, consistent, clutch player. Comes down to the question, which is more important, adding a good player or maintaining a pointless 13 year old snit? Remember, nearly everybody detested Tiger Williams until he became a Canuck. HKSR
Hate him and he's an absolute dick on the ice, but the guy actually does a lot of charity work for children and others in need off the ice. You gotta wonder if it's all just an act on the ice. 1

PureQuickness
Marchand is a dick on the ice. His antics are noted and he's since cleaned up his game somewhat. That said, off the ice, he gets a lot of underrated props and he doesn't go out of his way to tell everyone that he does that. He is HUGE with kids, especially the cancer ones. Apparently, he makes the most visits at the children's hospital, much more than anyone else. Also, as @King Heffy pointed out, he helped pay arena workers during COVID. That's a pretty stand up thing to do. He really didn't have to. There's much more to Marchand than what I described. It's like he's a different person once he's not playing. 2

He actually doesn't have to though because his offensive game is really good. Off the ice, he does these unbelievable charity work that OTHER PEOPLE (not himself) point out for him. He's a quiet guy off the ice, which is very different than how he 'acts' on the ice. I don't really understand why he did what he did in hockey. However, off the ice, there's no question that he's a positive influence.
