My guess is that the money was going to pay creditors and lawsuits so he wasn’t going to see it anyways.

 

We are used to an unusually large percentage of really smart and capable players for the Canucks.  It is easy to forget that by and large NHL players, especially North American guys who came through the CHL, are a bunch of naive young dummies who are adrift once they get outside the rink.

Doesn't he have mental health issues though? If that is indeed the case, it's really hard to make assumptions because it becomes really difficult what is going true his head.

Yes, he has been open about this. I think he was self medicating with alcohol before being diagnosed. Was a really good goal tender at times, could have been great.

Surely Lehner (or someone in his camp) must know his creditors will get paid eventually one way or the other? This would be such an easy way to pay off $4.4m.
