Game day threads should be about the game.

Here's another idea. Have three separate threads. One for pre-game; another separate thread for the actual game while in progress; and finally a dedicated post-game thread.

When the Game Day/Post Game Thread becomes dozens of pages and hundreds of posts if becomes unwieldly and difficult to read through it.

I don't see it as a place "just" for talk of the game. Some of us "meet" there "for" the game but we often talk of what we're eating (yummy casserole tonight), drinking, how we're feeling, etc. It's a place to congregate and socialize during the game as well as the actual breakdown of what's happening out there.

I mean, we have play by play for that. And, often, talk of what's happening during a game ties into things that have happened in the past or are observations made on an ongoing basis, not just for the game.

The game isn't really "drowned" out if you're watching it....mostly, this stuff in here is just sidebar stuff. Not just for the hardcore analysts but the rest of us noobs as well.

Very true. But there are a few fans of other clubs who come here to “fish”.

Anytime the team is down a goal , the doomers and wet blankets start crying about Pettersons contract length. Or something like that. It is really quite annoying. And it drags the game day threads down.

There is a lot to talk about through a game. But the game itself ends up being drowned out.

I'm not a big believer in excessive modding. But it would be good if we could down vote posts and after they reach a threshold they would disappear or something. Or at least it should be encouraged to keep it about the game. Before and after a game is one thing. But during the game is something else.

In the most compassionate way possible:

1. Good luck with controlling what other people talk about, and...

2. It sounds a lot like a "you" problem.

It's a me problem too but I agree with your point 1.

There are two distinct camps here - those who really don't like it when a thread veers wildly off from its' intended course and those who don't seem to mind much.

(I'm surprised Benning or Gillis haven't even been mentioned yet in this one. 😄)

Haha! Yeah.

I guess I just stop reading the thread when it gets annoying, but I do see how anyone would like to have a good venue for just discussing the game.

sometimes people talk about food in the gdt.
personally i dont give af what people talk about or their opinions tbh...unless they agree with me ofc 🤣

Constructive criticism is fine. Just being critical for the sake of just being critical is a different story. I have posters I've blocked because it's a broken record.

And usually once I block them it's a lot better. I don't want to control what people think. But clearly some think that they are the only ones that could run this team right.

I don't mind it when people talk food, drink. Etc. There's been plenty of threads that got derailed, but usually someone brings everyone back on track.

GDT, all it takes is one good play, or a goal and everyone gets back to discussing the game.

I notice if the game is just bad, or worse, boring. Then things get more crazy.

I mean, people go to a bar to "watch" the game but often are socializing as well. Sort of the same deal here in my view.

Fair point. It is a meeting place for socializing and all that.

I guess it is a losing battle but for me, the negative posts about Petey's contract just jump out at me every time and it drives me nuts. They are signalling that they have given up on the game. Even when there's half of it to play in some cases. I guess I will just log out every time the team is down a goal. It was the same for literally every game of the playoffs. The same broken record.

I do agree (that it turns into a downhill slide when we're down). Sadly, that's what I do...I disappear before I get caught in the tornado of negativity. It can be annoying for sure. It's almost like some wait for the team to fail so they can chime in and they overlook anything good that has been happening. Never anything good to say really.

Like others, I hit the ignore button so I can bypass the doom and gloomers and pot stirrers.

If people are reporting someone it's more likely to put them on the radar and result in some action (more of a consensus thing).

This is why I try not to pay too close attention to pre season gdt's

Pre season is not about winning or losing its about player evaluation. The coach will play the game to see bubble guys in certain situations, not to win.

Too many morons don't understand this and next thing you know the troll posts start and then the Homer's react and it's a shit show

Cant wait to see who the final cuts are, who our 24/25 final roster will be, and opening night.

Is there a true fan of a club who isn’t a homer? Isn’t being a homer being a true fan of a singular team? F all the other clubs and their fans. They shouldn’t be posting in our GDTs. It’s friggin’ weird that any fan of another club would post here.

Getting worked up over vets and the score in preseason is laughable. I just wanna see the young guys playing hard. I like to see where they are at in there game and how the new players gel. If you’re worried about Pettersson or the results then you just don’t understand the full picture of a hockey team and season

I think a lot of the doom and groomers are fans. They're just depressing.

Some people would rather be negative all the time, we call these people liberals lol

Nahhh.
Sometimes I’d rather talk about how awesome my couch is.

Chatting about the benefits of milk thistle is more exciting than watching certain teams.

This is a very diverse and interesting crowd, and all kinds join the GDT.
Yes the game should be at the center of the conversation, but who are you too tell us what to talk about?
