Caboose
This is an absolutely bonkers contract to give a guy who until recently was an AHL journeyman. Guess they will look to dump Grubauer sometime soon.
Bob Long
Is Francis in that hockey executive phase where they saddle teams with anchor contracts prior to being fired? 1 1

Guess they didn't wanna risk him repeating and asking for more

I heard it could be related to NBA pressure, there's smoke around the possibility of it returning to Seattle Supersonics would be competition, they want the Kraken to be competitive Edited October 9 by Coconuts
Ghostsof1915
The Swayman effect? Locking in goalies before they demand too much?
DeNiro
How much is Silovs gonna want now? This contract is ridiculous. It seems like Seattle is locking in on being mediocre.

Odjickwillkillyou
They must think Driedger will be a viable #2 once they offload Grub's. If it gets too bad they may have to release him and pay him to be in CV because I do not anticipate anyone taking on that cap and term for a tendy on the decline. Coconuts
I think there's a good chance Seattle just buys Grubauer out after the season's done if his lousy play continues, he'd only have two years left on his deal Not sure they'd be willing to pay to dump him on someone else

Depends on what he does, couple seasons at 850k and then he'll be due for a raise after a couple offseasons of cap jumps What happens with Shesterkin is going to raise the ask for all tenders Demko and Silovs are due the same season, it'll be interesting, I'll be a bit surprised if Silovs manages to displace Demko despite questions about his health

Sometimes it's hard to tell if a goaltender is actually that good or if they look better than they are due to the team in front of them. Seattle signed him after a Vezina finalist season, but in three seasons with Seattle he's yet to post a save percentage above .900.
spook007
At least its still possible to find cheaper alternatives as back up... ie Lankinen

It can be tough, but I think for the most part teams are able to gauge when a tender is a legit #1 He benefitted from some good Washington and Colorado teams, Seattle just doesn't have the top end talent those teams had, they rely more on everyone playing well because of their lack of gamebreakers They actually have some solid depth, but it's telling when McCann led their team last season with 62 points 7 minutes ago, spook007 said: At least its still possible to find cheaper alternatives as back up... ie Lankinen I assume he's probably gonna play most games, he was the better of him and Grubauer last season and he's younger Grubauer played well in Washington and Colorado, but for whatever reason(s) he hasn't been able to put it together in Seattle

A .916 save percentage and a 2.46 GAA is kind of cracked given the team he was on. Those are very similar to Demmer's numbers last year. And yes, Grubauer was a Vezina candidate before signing in Seattle. But the difference is Daccord was great in Seattle and is re-signing in Seattle. Grubauer got carried by Colorado and then got exposed when he left. So I think it's more likely that Daccord stays good. Maybe not as good as last year, but I think he can play to a 5mil level. And if he repeats last year is on a steal of a deal.

Toccfather
Grubauer has buyout or 50% retention written all over him. Think he could be a solid backup at a reduced salary.

I realized that when I was combing the fantasy waiver wire last night. So I guess SEA must have another option in the AHL or maybe a trade target?
