grumpyone Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Toronto doesn't want Lljegrin.... he's only worth maybe Freidman + 5th or maybe Deharnais straight up. and what's the big urge to get the other Raty ? Both Juulsen and Klimovich have potential... pick one, not both. don't know anything about Cogland, so I won't comment. Pizzaman is a good serviceable player, worth more than futures... at least a 4th. Quote
IBatch Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 OP thanks for the courage to do a proposal. Wheres the blue line "boost" the "tidy up" ... and picks? I was expecting: A top four D as the "boost" or at least a 4-5 ... plus some cap hit gone and picks. So basically a Brock/Garland/ EP proposal not this. 1 Quote
Provost Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 The way to improve the lineup isn’t to shuffle around bottom players. Add a player at the top of the lineup, and that has a double impact because they push someone down to a spot where the are more suited for. If you add a top four guy it can push one of Soucy or Myers to the 3rd pairing it solidifies that 3rd pairing as well as the 2nd pairing addition you make. 1 Quote

Have you seen the way Toronto manages and develops Defensemen!? Liljegren has shown he can produce points and smoothly handle play up and down the ice. Friedman is a body the other way and Hirose has regressed and been passed on the depth-chart. Juulsen will be 28 in April and has been worked on by Adam Foote non-stop. He is what he is now and makes too many costly mistakes. Utah has injuries to Durzi, Marino and now Bortuzzo. They need some depth and Klimovich is a right-handed forward prospect the other way to compensate them losing Ak.Raty. Klimovich is showing zero signs of even becoming a 4th Liner in Vancouver. Coghlan is a bigger, older and more refined version of Woo. Coghlan is from Duncan, BC and improves our puck-moving depth on the blueline. As for Di Giuseppe; I like his speed and heart but let's be real, he has been on waivers many times in his career and Detroit is not giving up a draft pick for a 4th Liner that they could have had from waivers a few weeks ago. With all due respect; if you knew young players and prospects better (especially the ones in my proposal), than you'd see that this is an improved line-up. Adding top players is a 50/50 guarantee to balance and improve your team. Sometimes it makes things worse! Just look at Vancouver over the years with what happened after adding players like Derek Roy, Jason Garrison, Loui Eriksson, Erik Gudbranson, Nate Schmidt, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Travis Hamonic, etc.. With all due respect, the team is in a win now mode, not trading away established players for prospects. The players you listed are bottom end players and prospects. No one cares if they eventually become contributors that might help the team in 2-3 years. Your trades result in subtracting Suter and Desharnais from the lineup and substituting Aman and then Liljegren to the 3rd pairing. It doesn’t change the Canucks fortunes at all. That is also assuming that somehow the market values Juulsen at a 2nd round pick…. And then Suter for Liljegren and a 2nd. Quote

That is also assuming that somehow the market values Juulsen at a 2nd round pick…. And then Suter for Liljegren and a 2nd. What do you watch?.. Liljegren is an upgrade on Juulsen and helps us win now. Liljegren is the exact same size as Juulsen and is a far more trustworthy first-pass option and puck-mover. He had a career-best 23 points in 55 games last season and was a +3 with 1 assist in 6 playoff games. Meanwhile Juulsen had 7 points in 55 games last season and was a -1 and also was a -1 in 2 playoff games. He also made brutal reads and poorly-timed pinches in the playoffs including one that costed us a game vs Edmonton. Also, having Desharnais currently pencilled out of the line-up does not even remotely mean it's "subtracting" him from the line-up. He can easily be swapped in and out. He hasn't even played every game as it is and hasn't exactly been poised so far. And clearly has alot of work to do with Adam Foote. As for Suter he is not re-signing here and Aman has been playing great. Not to mention the lack of need for Suter when Joshua returns to the line-up and with the elevated play of Aatu Raty. Lastly... The Juulsen trade was Juulsen for Aku Raty and because of Klimovich going the other way; it's also a 2nd Round Pick (Klimovich was a 2nd Round Pick only 3 years ago). Quote

Unlikely but could be done...
