Hughes is surpassing Pavel Bure as the most impactful player in Canucks history imho.

Night after night it looks like he can do this:

I live in Toronto and there was a point about this time last year when a guy asked me how good Hughes really is.

I said ‘this specific week, he’s the best player in the NHL’ - which was met with eye rolls of course.

I honestly think there are some weeks that he is the legit top player in the nhl.

And agreed, he may be becoming the best Canuck of all time.

Unless people really understand the game they don’t notice, by just watching, how great Hughes is. He’s not racing up the ice with the puck (Makar) but rather controlling the game more subtly. Hughes is a lot like Lidstrom that way. He dominates the game with smarts, and moves the puck via passing. He’s definitely a Hart candidate every year amongst those who understand the game.

Hull while known for his one timer absolutely had a sick snap shot. Sakic was accurate but I always found the thing that made it real special was his no set up quick release. Bedard's is that and then some cuz it is an absolute accurate rocket off that stick. As far as technique goes it is not premature...to say that shot will have the impact Sakic's had is WAY pre mature.

Hull's wrister was like Brock's at the all-star game routinely for 5-6 years to start the 90's.   Was simply sick.   Hull and Oats, one of the best shows in town, all-time really, like Mario/Jagr, Gretzky/Kurri.    70,86,72, 54,57, 29 (48 games walkout)..simply incredible.    The fact he didn't want to play for Canada in 96, was a lot like when his Dad was boycotted (with the rest of the WHA guys) in the summit series.   It sucked, we lost one of the best snipers in the world at the time.

Sakic was one of my favourite players (from my generation)  felt him and Yzerman were equals.   Not the same player, but equals as far as talent goes and if I had to rank Crosby, that's where i'd be putting him too.   The leagues never had that many high end centers all at once, the way it did in the 90's.   Federov, Gretzky, Gilmour, Messier, Lindros, Francis, Sundin,  Forsberg, Lafontaine, Mario etc, Sakic and Yzerman were both a head above their peer group, and without Mario or Gretzky, would have been 1-2 then the rest, the same way Crosby and Ovi were 1-2 then the rest, and now McDavid and McKinnon are 1-2.   The show "saving Sakic" touches on this (how many star centers were playing all at once..)  Gretzky (first half of the decade) and Mario cast some long shadows.

Sakic did most of his work in the dead puck era as well.   Not many players scored 100 points at 37 (post lockout), he did.   Too bad he missed 1.5 years to lockouts, and got his hand caught in a snow blower .. Otherwise he'd of had a good shot at passing Howe.    His release and accuracy was next level too.   Not as good as Hulls was in his prime, but few ever were.

After over 50 years of waiting for a cup do you really blame them for being impatient?

Petey isn’t the reason we haven’t won the cup in 50yrs

Yeah he sure isn't.   Messier is.  Let's have the correct target shall we!
