[Signing] Knights extend Theodore

Recommended Posts

Man, I had (a little) sticker shock when VAN were in the process of re-signing Hronek, but at age 26 Id say its a really good deal looking at the Theodore extension.

Cap doesn't apply to Vegas

Most of CFF is part of Vegas's cap, but they're just on LTIR

Puts them at about 70M with 7 F, 6 D and 0G signed. Cap will be around 90. So yeah, it's not ideal but they've got their top 6 F and top 3 D locked in. Hague will cost a few million to extend but with him they'll have a pretty full 7 D locked in. If they can sign Holtz and Brisson for cheap, that's a decent top nine forwards. They'll wanna add a decent vet or two to insulate, but beyond that it's just goaltending will be the main expense.

Vegas already paid up by letting a bunch of guys walk after last season (Marchy, Stephenson, Martinez, Carrier, Mantha, Amadio). Plus they got Hertl with 17% retention, so his cap hit is only $6.75M.

But they're already up against it again. They'll probably have to let McNabb and Howden walk at the end of the year. And not much left in the prospect pool, and they've already traded their 2025 & 2026 1st rounders. I think their time as a true contender is probably coming to an end.

not that big of a deal they got a cup and a final appearance to show for it.. while we all talk about wanting a team to be competitive every year.. I think most would trade a cup or 2 for 10 years of irrelevant and sucking.

I guess that means we offer sheet Hague! Surely they’ll be losing Hague or McNabb this offseason.

They will definitely shed one of them. At 34 soon I can see McNabb re-signing for cheap. I can also see Hague asking for a change of scenery as he was stuck behind Theodore and Martinez early in his career and now he's stuck behind Theodore and Hanafin for the next 7 years.

Hague might be a top 4 defenseman but he's never had the opportunity to prove it. I wonder what the asking price would be?
