ABNuck
There's a new (I think) series on Prime called "Game 7"...the 2nd show in the series features the 1987 Oilers vs. Flyers, one of the all-time greatest series for sure. But it gets better...the 5th show in the series is Game 7 of the 1994 SCF...not only do they show "the Lafayette shot", they do at full speed with that infamaous "CLANG" heard around the world. And TL16...what a warrior! Talk about not just leading by example, but coming up big with the weight of an entire city on your shoulders and a team on your back. The award for leadership is called the Messier award...it really should be the Linden award. Edited October 30 by ABNuck
Kevin Biestra
1987 and 1994 are the two best SCF game sevens I recall (or best SCF series anyway). The 1989 first round series between the Canucks and Flames on Calgary's way to the Cup was one of the all time greats though it happened early in the playoffs. 7th game OT in a back and forth series where the Canucks went to ultra-veteran-journeyman-backup Steve Weeks for one of their wins, in a season where McLean was a Vezina finalist and Linden a Calder finalist, and close to the last gasp for all of Mel Bridgman, Paul Reinhart, Harold Snepsts, Stan Smyl, Petri Skriko, Tony Tanti and others while wearing the flying skate. 1987...great season of hockey. The Flyers were lucky they had another young franchise goalie ready to immediately pick up where Pelle Lindbergh left off when he died young in 1985. 1987 never happens without Hextall, as good as those 1987 Flyers may have been. They were actually quite similar to the 1982 Canucks...a committee of very good scorers (Propp, Kerr, Poulin, Eklund, Sinisalo, Tocchet, Mellanby, etc.) but no 120 point guy...scoring by committee while the goalie pulled the weight of 10 men. 1
Popular Post Ghostsof1915
Ronning said it best. Linden was playing with two broken ribs. When they went to inject him to freeze it. He let out a howl of horrible pain. All the team heard it. Then he'd walk into the dressing room like nothing happened, and keep playing. The guy showed up in game 7 with two goals. The team needed players like Courtnall, and Bure, and company to step up. It wasn't for Linden's lack of trying. That is why, whatever mistakes he made as President. He always put the team first. And it's why he will always be my favourite player. 3

Ronning was the walking wounded. Bure and Courtnall etc. were human instead of the playoff / game 7 demigods that guys like McLean and Linden were. Lafayette did his job and then some. His crossbar was better than any skater on the team managed to accomplish other than Linden. As to Linden's tenure as president and especially regarding the labor dispute...I don't really know who was in the right. I know Chelios etc. weren't fans of how he went about things, but there would have been great players who weren't fans if Linden had taken the opposite stance. Canuck You
'94 run was insane, I was a lil puppy and I remember turning off my TV when we were playing Calgary GM7 because I thought it was over and didn't wanna cry..Mins later I turn it back on and it's a tie game going into OT and then Bure does his magic! What a time.
Canuck You
Also, I saw somewhere that Messier in gm7 towards the end bodychecked Linden and game him a cheap shot n the ribs knowing they were broken...I hate that POS with a passion, Fuck You Messier. Dying minutes of game 6. Funny thing, the TV camera didn't catch it, and no other photos show the cheap shot(s). Robson said Messier knocked chopped Linden down twice. Momesso was livid. 1

Yes you're right..It was GM6 ..Explains why Trev's jersey was all bloody in that pic with Kirk..Makes me so angry and he still scored 2 goals in GM7. Probably one of the cleanest players in the game yet scumbags like Messier get awards named after them. Hope he stubs his toe and steps on legos.

And that's why Robson's call as Linden crawled to the bench was (regarding the upcoming game seven), "He'll play, you know he'll play, he'll play on crutches..." 1

Then some dumbass decided to bring the prick to Vancouver, give him the C, give him #11 and the shithead shit the bed. Also that year the orca jersey was introduced, that’s when I knew I was in for more decades of pain.
Flipper
Just watched the prime episode. 30 years later and I still get chills when Lafayette hits the post. I still think if I believe hard enough, they can win the game. Linden says that nobody remembers who comes in second but I’ll always remember that team, even though they lost because I believe they were the better team. They were absolute beasts out there, they will always be the best team in my mind. Having to watch Keenan and he who shall not be named makes my skin crawl. I need to have a shower. 1

Beating St. Louis in a hard fought series felt like a good amount of revenge (Anderson was on that team too) ... then the unthinkable a couple years later.
Alflives
That was a club that went on a playoff run. They got hot at the right time. The 2011 club was the best in the league for pretty much three years in a row. Gillis “The Great” managed our best ever clubs. 1994 was fun but unexpected.
