Popular Post Rocket-68 Posted November 2 Popular Post Posted November 2 (edited) Actually Footage of the Canuck D (not named Huggy or Honker)'s Effort Last Game Spoiler Said D Coach T A Random Hockey Story Spoiler 10 fun Canucks facts that will never be forgotten By Paul Taylor |Aug 6, 2024 One thing which can't be denied is the passion and loyalty of Vancouver Canucks fans, who are there for the team through thick and thin. This is extremely commendable, given the inability to yet claim the holy grail of hockey after more than five decades in the NHL. Despite this passion and loyalty, it still seems like there is always something else to learn about the Canucks, no matter whether you're a long-term supporter, or new to the team. As such, here are 10 interesting things you might or might not know about them: 1) The Canucks entered the NHL for the 1970-71 campaign, and it only took them five seasons to win their first division title, in 1974-75. In all they have won 11 division titles in the NHL, with the most recent one this past season ending a drought which began in 2013-14. 2) Still connected to division titles, the most points the Canucks have ever totaled in a season is 117 in 2010-11, which also represented the first of two Presidents' Trophies in franchise history. That season would also see them advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. So close but yet so far 3) The Canucks have been to the Stanley Cup Final three times, in 1981-82, 1993-94 and the aforementioned 2010-11. The first time saw them swept 4-0, but the other two trips saw them eventually fall short after going the full seven games in the respective series. 4) The most goals the Canucks have ever scored in a season in 346, in 1992-93. This is one of only three times they have reached 300 goals in a season since joining the NHL, with 306 in 1983-84 and 303 a season earlier, in 1982-83. 5) The Art Ross Trophy -- awarded annually to the player who leads the NHL in regular season points -- has been won twice by Canucks players, Henrik and Daniel Sedin respectively. And of course they would have to also become the first brother duo to claim the trophy in back-to-back seasons, in 2009-10 and 2010-11. 6) The Sedin twins have also won other individual awards, with Henrik taking the Hart Memorial Trophy for league MVP in 2009-10, and Daniel claiming the Ted Lindsay Award a season later, for most outstanding player during the regular season. Marcus Naslund also won the Ted Lindsay Award in 2002-03, while Quinn Hughes took home the Norris Memorial Trophy this past campaign, as the top defenceman during the regular season. A better than 50 percent qualifying rate 7) The Canucks have a decent enough success rate in respect of how often they qualify for the NHL playoffs, at 29 times. By comparison they have failed to qualify on 24 occasions, which does not include 2004-05, when the season was cancelled due to a lockout by the league. The Canucks have retired six jersey numbers during their history, including 10 - Pavel Bure, 12 - Stan Smyl, 16 - Trevor Linden, 19 - Naslund, and 22 and 33 - the Sedin twins. The Sedin twins also became the first Cancuks to be enshrined into the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with Roberto Luongo, in 2022. 9) In NHL All-Star history, 40 different Canucks players have been selected for a total of 72 times. (They have also had five coaching selections.) Naslund and Bure lead the way with five All-Star selections each, Elias Pettersson is already second with four, while Brock Boeser is the only Cancuck be named NHL All-Star MVP, in 2018. 10) Rick Tocchet has the best winning percentage all-time among Canucks head coaches at .648, but yes, after only less than two seasons in charge to date. Alain Vigneault leads the way with 313 regular season wins all-time, with Marc Crawford in second place on 246 wins. Source: https://thecanuckway.com/posts/10-fun-canucks-facts-that-will-never-be-forgotten Overview Well, after the stellar performance last game where only Huggy / Honker / Garland and perhaps one or two more showed up, what version of the Canucks will be on the ice for this game? Magic 8-Ball (the new one, I smashed the old one) predicts Petey breaking out of his slump and leading the way alongside Miller. Canucks kick off a trio of games in Cali starting with the lowly Minnows where the Canucks look to get back onto a brand new winning streak. Early yet but the Canucks seem to be doing much better on the road than at home. With 6-days in California with Minnows, Quackers and Kingpins on the menu, our boyz should come out with winning record - we can hope. Sharks are on a three-game winning streak and are not the same team that the Canucks shellacked last year 10-1 - all hands on deck please. The Sharks are getting stellar play from Toffoli and Will Smith (not that one) he with a brace of goals in the Shark's win over the Hawks 3-2. Celebrini will not be playing which is a shame for everyone concerned. The 'Nucks are 3-1-0 on the road with a level 1-1-1 home record. Pushing the road record to 6-1-0 will go a long way to righting the ship. Huggy-Honker are flying this season having played 129 minutes together 5-vs-5 and hold a 61.6% control of the shot share being on the ice for 85 shots for and 53 shots against. Quote of the day: “Usually, when we have a stinker, this team does a really good job whenever we practice [afterwards], and it usually helps our game,” Tocchet said. “It's a little bit on me. I think the practices have to be a little bit more fundamental and driven, more detailed than ever. That's more on me, I’ve got to make sure I steer that ship more in the fundamental department.” ... that is ALL YOU COACH, the steering part!!!!! Head to Head Stats / Interesting Info / Whatever Spoiler Quick Tidbits on the Sharks The Sharks are currently on a three-game winning streak and have not had a four-game winning streak since the beginning of the 2021-22 season. Mikael Granlund leads the team with 13 points through 12 games. He has picked up seven of those points on the power play and is averaging 21:23 of ice time per game through the first dozen outings. Fabian Zetterlund and former Canuck Tyler Toffoli are tied for the team lead in goals with six apiece. It has been a near-even split between the pipes so far this season with Mackenzie Blackwood getting seven starts and Vitek Vanecek starting in five of his own. Both goalies have a save percentage under .900% and their goals-against averages are between 3.6 and 3.65. The Sharks have picked up a point in all four of their games that they have scored first in. They hold a 2-0-2 record when scoring first but a 1-7-0 record when the opponent scores the first goal of the game. First periods have been difficult for the Sharks so far this season, so a quick start is important for the Canucks. The Sharks have been outscored 19-5 in the opening frame through 12 games. Second periods have been the best for the Sharks this season, scoring 13 and allowing 10 Media The drill is well known by now! NoCupSyndrome Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Potential forward lines? Debrusk Miller Boeser DJ Miller Garland Heinen Blueger Sherwood Bains Suter Hogs 1 1
g_bassi13 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I have faith in a rebound game with Lankinen in net. It's hard to build any kind of momentum or fight when everything goes in. A Silovs game is feeling like a Georgiyev Avs game right about now. I know the Sharks are on a bit of a run, but I predict a blowout win for the Canucks. Feels like it will be one of those games. 1 1

I will post updated lines tomorrow once we have a clearer picture.
Coconuts Posted November 2 Posted November 2 This is a game we should win, but it's also a game the guys would be stupid to take lightly. Sharks have strung together three wins in a row against a lousy Hawks team and two solid Utah and LA teams. Yeah, they raised expectations last season but they need to start proving themselves again. 4-2-3 ain't bad but the only team we've beaten that's actually been playing well thus far is Florida. 2 1

Slegr Posted November 2 Posted November 2 We win this one - I can feel it. What’s more, DJ is almost back. Now if we can get Demko back one of these months, we won’t need to worry about our current back-up issue. 1

Dr. Crossbar Posted November 2 Posted November 2 We've had good bounce back games with this core. They know exactly what needs to be done and can't accept a slide backward. They also know they can't take any team lightly. Just need to win games we should be winning. 1 2
