I know Crosby Re-signed, but he also talked about the management there still wanting to win.

If you want to win, it makes no sense to move Eller for futures unless it is a prelude to bringing in another better piece.

Eller is their 3rd best producing forward while playing 3rd line minutes and really being a defensive specialist.  Still an excellent 3rd line centre even at his age.  He wasn’t pushed out by a young player.

Pittsburgh is almost out of the playoff race already.  If you aren’t at .500 by the 20 game mark, your odds of making the playoffs are already pretty remote.  Unless they go on a mini win streak they won’t hit that.

Would Crosby still want to hang around for a team selling off pieces to try to get bigger picks and rebuild?  Would he think it is best for the team to let them trade him for a nice return of young players/picks?  Would anyone want to see Crosby’s last years to be losing most nights?

“There’s still hunger from the organization (and) ownership to win and a commitment,” Crosby said. “From the time I’ve been here, that’s the case and that’s been there. That’s important.”

It's like the last 2 years of the Sedins when the team was moving out Burrows and Bieksa and Edler and Hansen.

Pitt mngmt knows it is over and they need to start the rebuild but they don't want to disrespect Crosby in the process.

I feel for them.  That was a lousy time to be a Canuck fan.

So who's going to tell Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson that Pittsburgh is rebuilding?

Frank apparently.

Pretty meh return too.

Question is, when Sid comes here and helps us win a cup, do we eventually retire his jersey?

If he ever does leave Pittsburgh (which I highly doubt), he will be going to the Avalanche.

We’d build a statue of him if that happened.

I only doubt that if they aren’t a contender. I realize him and MacK are good friends but our mgmt and him also have strong ties and our projected cap space come TDL fits his salary very nicely.

As Brian Burke would say, I’m indulging in “a drug-induced fantasy”.

I mean realistically if they were performing they wouldn't be.

They said it was to get the new prospects to learn from the sedins and it'll help their development.  From our team now Only Brock played with them rookie season.

Puckpedia ... and pretty much anyone else that is paying attention ... would love to have him [Sid] here in Vancouver for a season or two, but that has a 0.01% chance of happening.

I like this trade by Washington:

1. Get it done early in season so pay less maybe than at the TDL

2. Get the player you want(canucks did this with Zadorov)

3. 103 NHL Playoff games played w/ 49pts, proven playoff performer with his best playoff success being w/ Washington...albeit at a younger age.

4. Good FO%

5. Plays the PK

He is a player I would of been okay with the Canucks getting as a rental. Play #3/4C for that sort of offer.

PS: Eller scored the Capitals Stanley Cup clinching goal vs. Vegas.

Letang and Karlsson are done.  Crosby and Malkin are still performing at a high level, and arguably more than worth their cap hits.  If they move out Karlsson and Letang and bring in some up and coming youth, they'd probably be a strong wild card team.

Who would possibly take those contracts tho? Even if those guys were willing to waive, I can't see any team wanting either of them. Pits would have to pay to move them.

Yup, the Karlsson acquisition was absolutely stupid.

Letang is only making $6.1M, probably $1M to $1.5M more than he should be.  Retention on him and a team like Chicago or SJ could be interested.  I don't see Letang waiving though.  Not if Crosby and Malkin are staying put.

Karlsson I could see waiving, but then he's too expensive for what he brings.

So yeah, like I mentioned, I think Letang and Karlsson are the issue there.

Oh well, I don't feel for them.  They've had their Cups.  Move over, it's our turn.

Which involves probably throwing in draft picks which is counter-productive.

At 50% retained.  They could move em and get a return.

Maybe something small? Still kind of screws pits on bringing in major talent.
