smithers joe Posted November 18 Posted November 18 has anyone had reports on their DNA and who they share bloodlines with? some of the famous people on my list are; rene levesque, celine dion, madonna, justin trudeau, patrick roy and angelina jole. several others that i've never heard of. i think it was king louie the 14th or 16th that sent several orphan girls to canada to mate with french settlers. they were known as the kings daughters. i have several of them in my tree. 1 2 Quote
DrJockitch Posted November 18 Posted November 18 (edited) Considering how much companies make just for tracking our phone data, I am never going to pay to get a genetic profile. They should be paying us to collect the data. In Canada, insurance companies can not collect genetic information or use it but that is bound to change and I think sending out these genetic profiles is risky from a long-term insurance perspective. ‘Amazing therapeutic uses of genetic profiles are coming and they can already be used and in a limited manner for directed treatments but I worry about that information in the hands of corporations and the hackers that mine them. Can you imagine being denied insurance because your great aunt that you've never heard of before has a genetic disorder (like type II Diabetes)...even though at present you are fine. We're almost stepping into "Minority Report" territory here, or even the movie "Gattaca", denying people certain benefits based on their genetic makeup. I was adopted very young, and always told by my adopted mother that I was Irish. Did the Ancestry.com thing and found out I'm Scottish, not Irish. Doesn't affect me in the least but I can see how collecting that data could have negative future consequences. A few years ago my wife and I toured the Holocaust Museum in DC...the Nazis used one of the first known "computers", effectively they were punchcards back then, to track and trace everyone's genetic makeup...they then used that data a few years later to round up the Jewish populace. So yeah...very negative consequences. 2 Quote

joe-max Posted November 18 Posted November 18 I have no idea about myself, but my wife is a distant relative to Pamela Anderson, so I basically married into Pamela Anderson's family. Quote

In spite of the past of Pamela, she seems to be much better adjusted than before. I only hope she continues her path because she seems to be a good person who made questionable choices (of which I don't judge her for). 2 Quote
PrideInThisTeam Posted November 18 Posted November 18 I'm actually part of the Levesque bloodline, though not the Rene line I believe. He's more distant relative like Celine Dion. Quote
Bounce000 Posted November 18 Posted November 18 One of my weird ass cousins did a DNA Ancestry test, and found out he was like 10%-15% Scandinavian. Then got really into the Norse culture thing, named his kid Odin. Quote

Variety is the spice of life. Quote
Heretic Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Well that really sucks Joe - having a distant bloodline with Trudeau! My wife and I did the ancestry.ca back in 2011 - just see see how far back we can trace our roots. I was able to trace one side of my heritage (father) back to 1575 (English). And another back to 1430 (Scottish). Unfortunately, on my mom's side, only back to my Great Grand Parents as records don't seem to be as good (Ukrainian and Austrian). 1 Quote
