Ducks Rumors: John Gibson open to being traded to Edmonton?

Anaheim Ducks

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson could be open to a trade to the Edmonton Oilers. Gibson has been linked to trade rumors for a few years now, and it feels like more than ever now, a deal could finally be coming this season.

LeBrun mentioned the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes as options, but then dove into the Oilers as a team who could be in the mix for Gibson's services.

“Gibson has a modified no-trade clause, but my understanding is he would consider the Oilers, who came one win short of the Cup last season.
But my sense is that goaltending is not the Oilers’ focus right now. That’s not because their goalies have been fantastic but because that type of trade would have a lot of moving parts and affect their cap. Right now, the Oilers are focused on getting their forward group going in a more effective and consistent, offensive way. And closer to March 7, I suspect the blue line will require an addition.”

Gibson has two seasons remaining on his deal at $6.4 million cap hit, and the Oilers currently have $4.5 million in projected deadline cap space, ahead of the trade deadline March 7.

While Gibson has struggled the past few seasons, he's off to a strong start for the Ducks, since returning from injury. The 31-year-old has appeared in four games, posting a 3-0-1 record, with a 2.46 GAA and .915 Sv.%.

Gibson holds modified 10-team no-trade protection, meanwhile, Anaheim has Lukas Dostal, who has burst onto the scene for the Ducks. Dostal, 24, is a pending restricted free agent, making $812,500 this season.

Gibson would definitely be an upgrade over Skinner if he can stay healthy. I hope they pay an arm and a leg for him.

Skinner for Gibson? Skinners had better numbers than Gibson the past couple years well Gibson struggled to stay healthy, this ain’t Gibson from 2018 and earlier he’s struggled for his past 200-250 games just don’t see how this makes any sense for them but perfect 🤣

He's willing to trade in sunny Anaheim for the frozen hell that is Edmonton. Yeah, go ahead.

Fair. But lose in the final, and Mcdumpster baby will go missing when getting the Conn Smythe again.

Oilers might not even be a playoff team this year, chances that McDavid and crysaitl stay healthy with their big mins for a whole season again are slim, McMuffin has already shown he’s run down and we are only 6 weeks in
