To Vancouver:

Mathieu Olivier

To Columbus:

2025 2nd round pick

I love Mathieu Olivier.  Put a beatdown on Matthew Rempe, and went toe to toe with Arber Xhekaj as well and won the fight.  IMO, he's probably in the top 3 toughest guys in the league right now.  I'd love him on our 4th line causing trouble and protecting our teammates.  He would be a beauty to have in the playoffs, especially if we play Edmonton.  Has 6 goals this year too so he can play.

A 2nd round pick might be a bit much but I think Olivier is the type of player that can change a game on the 4th line, sort of like Ryan Reaves in his prime.  Remember, Pittsburgh traded a 1st round pick for Reaves.  Who was the GM in Pittsburgh that traded for Ryan Reaves?  Jim Rutherford...

Oliviers stock is high right now, he's arguably the #1 fighter in the league and is can actually play a regular shift.

I would rather go after Rempe whose in the dog house in NYR. Their coach doesn't seem to like him... maybe we could get him for cheap.

trade Desharnais for him so we can have someone beat up Jeannot. 😏

Yeah Olivier is quite the beast, almost a bigger Dorsett.  If we could trade for him or Leason in Anaheim that would be a great add.
That being said, I hope Allvin consults his people to ensure they have the next Dakota Joshua on their hands before trading a 2nd to get him.

I am on the Olivier train. I miss the days where we were not only good, but would piss off the opposition and could back it up.

Not sure who we will be adding to the defense that could make our D a little more intimidating.

BUT a forward group including:

Miller

Joshua

Sherwood

Olivier

Would make every player play grittier.

CBJ certainly have an abundance of RWs and a shortage of LWs.  They are also one of the teams that

have (apparently) shown interest in Hogs.  I don't know if they would be willing to let go of Olivier, but it

sure would be fitting for the Canucks, at this point.

Columbus is sitting in a great situation, with a huge amount of cap space and a stockpile of good young

players.  They could probably trade for a better LW than Hogs.

Recorded and watched the Calgary at CBJ game yesterday.

The play of Olivier stood out. Took some penalties. Had a doozy of a fight. Hard on the forecheck. Calgary was aware of him whenever he was on the ice.

Mathieu Olivier was literally beasting it out there. Think Kiefer Sherwood but bigger. He hits to hurt and is intimidating. Would be a force in the playoffs if the refs put away their whistles. Reminded me a lot of how Raffi Torres played for us in 2011, before the DOPS set their sights and zeroed in on him.

Olivier can play. Would be more than a just a 6 minute per game fourth liner.

I believe he would help us get back some of the swagger that we had last year.

Wonder if a trade of Hoglander for Olivier would be in the ballpark?

If I was the CBJ General Manager I wouldn't pull the trigger. Would probably need sweeteners or a different player to anchor a trade.

Or maybe one of our good roster players for Jirichek, Olivier, ++.  Such a trade would require vision and big brass balls. Would be a big gamble with perhaps a big payoff or it could be a busted hand if Jirichek doesn't live up to something close to the hype.

If, at the trade deadline the CBJ are out of the playoff picture, there will probably be a number of teams lined up to make offers on Olivier.

As PA  did last year and if we want this player, we should put our best package together early, well before the TDL.

Not sure that we are good trade partners with the CBJ but it would be tempting, if I was the Canucks GM, to put out some feelers.

Hate to say this, everyone was bigger than Dorsett and wasn't exactly a lb per lb beast either.   Probably the last guy I would bring up in pugilistic Canucks lore.

Trading Hoglander for Olivier would be terrible in the sense we'd be buying high on Olivier and selling low on Hoglander.  If Olivier is our target, I suggest we wait until the TDL for his crazy high shooting% to drop so his value comes back down to Earth.  He's shooting at a 24.1% clip right now vs his career average of <10%.

I agree Olivier would be a fantastic 4th line pickup.  It's nice having a forward be the enforcer on the team because they can sit in the box and not be a huge loss on the ice for the rest of the team.  Having a guy like Zadorov be the enforcer meant if he's in the box, we're down to 5 defencemen.
