Kevin Biestra Posted Wednesday at 01:47 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:47 AM (edited) Perhaps many of today's Canuck fans don't know that we had not only one but two of Don Cherry's famous "eleven 20 goal scorers" in one season for the 1977-1978 Bruins. One was early Canucks legend Bobby Schmatuz who returned to the Canucks like Trevor Linden for the end of his career as well. The other is one of the greatest hockey players ever born in Vancouver, Peter McNab, who actually led those 1978 Bruins with 41 goals. The eleven 20 goal scorers is perhaps Don Cherry's most talked about achievement and the one of which he is most proud. McNab had two 40-goal seasons and ten with 20 or more (plus one with 19). He had six straight seasons with 35 or more goals and was one of the best hockey players to ever put on a Canucks jersey in the first few decades of the team's existence. He is still probably one of the best. He played in the NHL All Star Game back when it was pretty hard to get into that lineup, was 2nd for the Lady Byng Trophy and peaked at being named the 6th best center in the NHL in an era that featured Bryan Trottier, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito etc. in their primes. He finished up his career with 363 goals and 813 points in 955 games (and was +128 for his career). He is behind only Glenn Anderson and Paul Kariya for career scoring by a player born in Vancouver. And Joe Sakic and Cliff Ronning if you include all of the suburbs. Edited Thursday at 01:17 AM by Kevin Biestra Quote
