Kevin Biestra Posted Wednesday at 02:04 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:04 AM (edited) This guy always left an impression with me because my Mom liked his name Dane and thought it would be good for kids being born in the 90s. Well I looked it up and until 2008 he was the only Dane in the NHL's history and even now he is only one of two. But he is notable for other reasons, one being that he was a contributor to the 1993-1994 Canucks lineup that went on the run to the Cup final. He was part of a lineup with such depth that being unable to crack the lineup regularly held his career back. The 1994 Canucks were so deep that Jackson, Jimmy Carson, Stephane Morin, Mike Peca, Jose Charbonneau, Shawn Antoski, Dixon Ward, Nathan Lafayette etc. all couldn't make the lineup even most of the season. These were real players and that kind of depth is part of what allowed the Canucks to keep rolling through the playoffs and perhaps also to always seem to be getting better as the series progressed and their opponent looked more tired (the Calgary, Toronto and New York ones for sure). In Jackson's case, he looked really good in his 1993-1994 rookie year. He didn't play enough games to lose rookie status, but he had 5 goals and was +1 in his 12 games. That is the sort of performance that would get a player a foothold on most teams. When it was all said and done, he had 12 goals and 18 points in 45 NHL games, which is better than a 20 goal pace per season for his career. He just never really got to set down roots and build on those numbers...but he was part of maybe our greatest team ever iced back in 1994. And without question one of the best three. And since Dane Byers (entered the NHL in 2008) played 14 career games and scored only one point, Jackson is still the all time NHL record holder in pretty much every meaningful category for guys named Dane. Oh yeah and his jersey #36 was the same as The Great Dane, Jannik Hansen of Denmark. Edited Wednesday at 02:09 AM by Kevin Biestra Quote
