Big rangey D man that can skate and play with a bit of an edge. Rather have Sanheim though. Edited Wednesday at 04:36 AM by DeNiro Quote
Popular Post Provost Posted Wednesday at 04:35 AM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 04:35 AM (edited) I was on the Ristolainen train a few years ago. It turns out, he just isn’t very good. Maybe an incremental improvement on Myers but at a much bigger cap hit. He is another guy who really should be on a 3rd pairing but doesn’t play well when he has to play higher up. CanuckMan Posted Wednesday at 05:06 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:06 AM No thanks. I think the plan is to actually win games. Have no fear, Allvin will pick someone up eventually. He is not known to sit around for too long. I expect a trade before Valentines Day. 1 Quote
Hammertime Posted Wednesday at 05:30 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:30 AM Is he an artist? I didn't know he could draw. 4 Quote
The Duke Posted Wednesday at 06:59 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:59 AM I’d prefer Risto to Vinny. With some retention on Risto and Desharnais going the other way, it could be palatable. The cost on that move would be high, though. And we need a guy to carry the 2nd pair, not a luxury item on the 3rd pair. Doesn’t seem like a fit. 1 Quote
DrJockitch Posted Wednesday at 02:17 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:17 PM (edited) Good god not this again. Guy is big and moves well but is a career loser. Everywhere he goes sucks. Some of that is situation, some of that is teams keep paying this guy big money to win when he has no idea what that means. Please PA stay away. Edited Wednesday at 02:17 PM by DrJockitch 2 Quote
Alflives Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM Risto is a dough head. Myers is the far superior player and for a lot less money. Benning, the moron, is gone. Allvin will have no interest in a dough head. 2 Quote
Angry Elf Posted Wednesday at 03:29 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:29 PM I agree that Ristolainen is not very good. Sanheim, on the other hand, I could get excited about. Sanheim is also on a very reasonable $6.25 mil contract ending in 2030/31. I wonder what it would take to get him from Philly? Obviously a lot. Quote
aGENT Posted Wednesday at 04:07 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:07 PM IMO we should be targeting a long term 2nd pair lefty. Whether that's a pending UFA like Pettersson or Lindgren or even better (though more unlikely) pending RFA like Miller, Romanov etc. If we're targeting a righty, I'd far, FAR prefer Borgen. Risto would just be another, more expensive Myers and not what we really need. But unfortunately with Myers extended, I think our right side "is what it is" until Willander arrives. 2 1 Quote
RJCF96 Posted Wednesday at 04:52 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:52 PM Need atleast 50% retention to even consider this. He just isn't very good, heck even at 50% retention, you can argue some of our prospects may surpass him in the depth chart within the time frame of this contract. 1 Quote
Screw Posted Wednesday at 06:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:31 PM He is not the defender in Philly I would be looking at. Quote

Rypien-Punch Posted Wednesday at 09:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:32 PM (edited) Ristolainen could be a buy low player. his stock is not as high as some of the other names out there like Rasmus Anderson, Marcus Pettersson or Jacob Trouba. His personality would probably fit in well with Vancouver. Our D coaches could help simplify his game like they did for Myers. He plays a similar style to Myers. He would be cheaper than the other names listed above to acquire and could help us right now. If management feels Branstrom Myers is a decent second pair than Soucy Ristolainen on the bottom pair would be ok. We would need to send Desjarnais back in the trade Edit. all he really needs to be is better than Juulsen Hughes Hronek Branstrom Myers Soucy RIstolainen Edited Wednesday at 09:32 PM by Rypien-Punch 1 Quote

Duodenum Posted Thursday at 12:19 AM Posted Thursday at 12:19 AM Ristolainen is not a good defender, hard pass. He was bad in Buffalo, now is bad in Philly, he'd be bad on the Canucks as well. Quote
Bobby James Posted Thursday at 12:21 AM Posted Thursday at 12:21 AM Risto has been in trade proposals his whole career and I've never heard anyone praising him in any significant way to justify the 5 million+ cap hit. I agree we would do better to target other Dmen. Quote
JeremyCuddles Posted Thursday at 12:45 AM Posted Thursday at 12:45 AM I am just here to see the Jett Woo + 3rd rounder trade offers. I don't agree with Alf very often, but I have to agree Risto lacks a little something between the ears. We already have that guy, his name is Myers. 1 Quote
