Walman would be fantastic for our 2nd pair LHD role. 

28 years old.  6'1" 218lbs.  Playing over 22min per night. 

15 points in 20 games, +5 on a crappy SJS team.

Sub 50% oZ Start% too.

 

Signed through the 2025-26 season at $3.4M.

 

Honestly, I'm not sure if the package is even enough, but this is the kind of defenceman we need as our #3. 

 

SJS do get 3 fantastic pieces for the future as they continue to rebuild around Celebrini.

Not debating that he might be a good pickup for us, but we need someone who can reliably play RD right now.

 

If we're going to move assets, that's a bigger area of need at the moment.

I think we need to look longer term than just filling the hole left by an injured Hronek.  It'd be like us making a desperation move to fill in a top 6 centre because Miller is out.  Longer term I think we need a 2nd pair LHD the most.  Willander has a really strong chance of becoming a 2nd to 1st pair RHD in the near future.

Good shot blocker, good defensive defenseman.

Really don't think the Sharks would be keen on moving Walman right now. That veteran pair of Walman - Ceci eats so much shit for them they're invaluable. They play all the tough minutes against teams' top players and and get sacrificed at the alter so the younger defensemen can get a little room to breathe.

They can have a veteran pairing of Forbort-Desharnais do the same thing

It is not as if they are trying to win games.

Lol I mean they still need to play in the NHL. It's not like Europe where you get demoted to a lower league if you're bad enough.

Just wish we were in on Walman when Detroit was paying to get rid of him. His advanced stats showed that of a 2nd pairing LD.

Both is better. Can’t remember about timing of the trade into free agency but I feel like the puck moving mobility is where I wouldn’t have signed both Forbort and Desharnais. Sadly RHD I would have signed Desharnais but I would have used Forbort money and Heinen money to get Walman and a pick from Detroit.
