Kevin Biestra Posted Friday at 01:42 AM Posted Friday at 01:42 AM It might not be known that the Canucks had in their history at least three goalies who won the WHA's Stanley Cup (the AVCO Cup) when that league was in existence and competing with the NHL, before some of its teams (Whalers, Nordiques, Jets, Oilers) were absorbed into the NHL basically as is, such was the quality of the rosters. One was Richard Brodeur who took us to the 1982 Stanley Cup final, another was Gary Smith who was in net for over 70 games for the Canucks' only regular season division championship of their first 20 years in 1974-75, and another still was Gary Bromley who had maybe the best mask in hockey history... \\ But Bromley wasn't just a pretty face...he was also a pretty good goalie. He was voted the 8th best goalie in the NHL in 1974-75 (going 26-11-11 for the Sabres) and with the Canucks he had a 25-27-14 record, extremely close to .500, during years where the Canucks were not a winning team. In 1977-78 he won the AVCO Cup with Bobby Hull and the Winnipeg Jets and had another terrific season with a 25-12-1 record and a 3.30 GAA in the high scoring WHA. 1 Quote
