Been into sports card collecting for a bit and wondering if there's anyone else out there. Didn't see a topic open for it.

Currently I've got mainly baseball and hockey with some football and basketball. Would love to hear/see what ppl got!

I unknowingly started collecting hockey cards as a kid when I started buying O-Pee-Chee cards for the 1979/80 season. I eventually had a box full of loose cards, from 1979 to 1983 that my mom just stored away and I had forgotten about them. Years later, as an adult, I discovered this box and the treasures that were inside. A Gretzky rookie, other rookie cards of Bourque, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr, Stastny, Gartner, Anderson, Goulet, etc., and they were all in good/great condition. I got a bunch of cards sleeves and some card storage boxes and I've been enjoying it ever since. I've got around 6,000 cards and I still get cards these days and get excited every time I get a Canucks player.

I collected a lot as a kid and bought sporadic boxes into my early 20s.  Baseball and hockey cards only.  Just before the pandemic hit my brother and I split up our childhood collection.  We kept the cards to that meant something to us (and gave them to our kids) and ditched the rest.

That was when I started my Canuck binder project.  My goal is to get a card (In a Canuck jersey, or identifying them as a Canuck) for every Canuck that has a card (that fits in a 9 card binder page).  It has been a ton of fun researching and getting the cards I need.  By my count, there are 495 different Canucks with cards.  I currently have 491.  I'll get Elias Lindholm when mail service starts up, Jim Wiste's stamp from 1970 has been hard to find, Jason Jaffray's card has been elusive for some reason, and my white whale...  Josh Leivo Spx game used limited to a print of 1.  Yes, 1.  I managed to locate a Andrey Pedan limited to 32, but this may be pushing it.

I love keeping the binder up to date.  I'm a dork so I keep it in order of games played (regular season + playoffs).  It really is a tome of Canucks history.  Every card has a story.

That's an awesome canucks collection. I recently bought a bulk collection on marketplace of around 7k cards and have slowly been going through when I have time but I have a toddler so barely touched it. Speaking of canucks cards I found a signed trevor linden in there so that's been a highlight as he's a favorite.

The Josh leivo print of 1 is kinda funny😁

Sounds like you have an amazing collection! Half of my stuff is from junk wax era as that's when I started as a kid so even the Allstar rookies aren't worth much but they have huge sentimental value. For some reason I've always just loved the upper deck collectors choice series. And the late 80s o-pee-chee designs are great too.

If there is something specific you are looking for maybe i can be of some help... Cam Kneeley rookie for example? in his Canucks uniform.

Actually had the Neely rookie from my childhood collection...not even close to mint but no creases.  Just some rounded corners and my brother's and my name printed on the back.  We were 5 and 9, what do you expect? 😂

Down to missing just four (well, 3 as I'll get a Lindholm in the mail once the strike is over).

Jason Jaffray 07/08 Ultimate Collection

Josh Leivo 21/22 SP Game Used (Limited to 1 😬)

Jim Wiste 70/71 Sargent Promotion Stamps

lol, Wiste has a Dad's Cookie card but it's too tall for the binder pages....I'm tempted to get one and cut it with a paper cutter 🤔

I keep the Beckett Release calendar page bookmarked and check for new sets when I'm bored.  Whenever a SP set comes out I hold my breath because they put out obscure cards with limited counts.  Doubly so with their "Tonight's Lineup" subset.  They take a game or two and release 1 card for each player that played in that game.  I guess I'm lucky Josh Leivo was the only player in that lineup where that is now his only card as a Canuck.  If that happened in todays game, I would potentially need to get Lankinen, Desharnais, Juulsen, Brannstrom, Sasson, Sherwood, Blueger, Heinen, DeBrusk 😆.  Now, many of those will eventually get cards but a few of those may not.  But yeah, probably will never get Leivo.  I'll have to settle for this guy haunting the pages.

I have a few sets I'm partial to as well.

09/10 Upper Deck is probably my favourite modern one.

I'm an older fart and began collecting hockey cards when I was a kid growing up in the mid 70 s.  Back then, cards were not considered collectibles and we did all sorts of things with them.  Actually, the chewing gum was one of the selling points.  I stopped when I went to high school and all those cards (not many were in that great of shape) were thrown away by my parents.  Then the early 90's boom/bust came along and I foolishly spent alot of my money on cards that ended up with little to no value.  I kept the most valuable from those years.  Now I buy maybe a few hobby boxes and or blaster or booster boxes just for the young guns.  I did buy myself Lemieux and Gretzky rookies back when the hobby started to take off and those are my most prized cards.

Lately I haven't been buying much.  Couldn't keep up with the Bedard hype and now young guns are split up into multiple series.  I do buy a bit here and there and have most of the young guns from our canucks core but its gotten too spendy for me now.

Yes seems like its a peak time in the hobby still recovering from covid boom. Some pull back is in order but they like to make lots of cards it seems. Good call buying the goats.

Me trying to go through some of what I picked up recently 🤣 20240929_141941.thumb.jpg.aa745cd50c2be92922d5154392de04f3.jpg

Looked like my collection!  I did donate a ton of Score and Proset cards.  Just didn’t have room for them.  Also kept all my OPC premier cards as the first year they were short printed.  The rookie cards for the stars of that decade only have worth if they get professionally graded high.  I.e. score Brodeur rookie.

I have suitcases full. My brother used to be a collector/seller and at one point he went through our cards to assess some of them. Have a Lemieux rookie card that way back when was valued at $400. A Mike Modano jersey card that, at the time, I thought was pretty cool lol. We used to go to card shows (we met Linden at one).

I started collecting for my son in the early 90's and just kept going. Every Christmas he'd get a box of Signature Series cards. He laughs at me because I still buy them and, like others here, get excited when I find a Canuck player. Just pulled a JT MILLER (Tampa) card.

I used to collect all the NHL stuff...sometimes 7-11 and Shell would have coins, albums, etc. Those trophies from McD's. The "lockers" with sticks in them. Have full sets, some unopened.

I always thought that in a pinch my son could open a collectable/memorabilia shop and follow in his Uncle's footsteps. As a hobby or extra income. So I've kept it all...all neatly organized and in mint condition. Not sure what'll happen to it...my son lives in a 700 sq. ft. apartment so everything's stored here for now.

Every now and then I like to dive into it as over time I forget what's in there.

In elementary school kids used to set cards up against a wall, and anyone interested would stand a certain distance back to flick other cards at them. Knock it over and you won the card. Goalies were usually the hot item. Fun memories!

I bought, collected, and sold cards for a few years going into high-school, made a decent job of it at flea markets and such. When the market saturated and cards began to lose value I got out of collecting. Still have a few in boxes here and there.

I used to collect hockey cards when i was a kid. Kind of got back into it over the last year. The one card I picked up a few months ago was a signed Mclean rookie card. And it's among my favorite cards.

We have a collection--a few good cards, including a Crosby rookie and two Ovechkin rookies. They're not $10,000 cards or anything but worth a couple hundred dollars individually.

I've been getting into Magic: The Gathering lately though. Also wanted to start buying Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards again, just as a way to remember the days of yore.

I'm into magic as well. These days it's purely commander with friends very casually.
