Glad we still have ol' Kurtenbach around. Must be the Amway products. When I was round 13, 14, Kurt was a huge spokesman for them. My Mom and Dad were too, really into it. Orland was #1 though. My late folks put together meetings, so I got to see Kurtenbach in my house a couple times. 1 Quote

Kevin Biestra Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Rest in peace. A really underrepresented and underrecognized figure in early Canucks history along with guys like Cesare Maniago and Charlie Hodge. Guy was holding down the fort every night against what looked like the hailstorm of arrows coming down at the end of 300. Edited November 26, 2023 by Kevin Biestra 1 Quote
Wilbur Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Dunc Wilson's 148 games put him on page 20 of my Canucks binder (140-148 GP). That's getting up there for a goalie. You could argue, of all the players on this page, he had the greatest impact on the organization. Spoiler Currently tied for 13th in all-time Canuck wins. 12 Kay Whitmore 74 36 28 6 13 Dunc Wilson 148 34 86 12 13 Eddie Lack 82 34 30 9 15 Garth Snow 109 33 52 11 16 Corey Hirsch 101 32 42 13 1 Quote

He and Charlie Hodge held the fort that first 1970-71 season. Charlie was a borderline Hall of Famer and it showed. Dunc was like the early Rocky Balboa of goalies, an underdog ham and egger and he didn't get a ton of wins but gave the team a chance to win more often than not in the high scoring 70s. I would say it is Dunc and Kay Whitmore for most impactful on that page. Kay was the backup for the 1994 run and had one really good season for us as a backup like Steve Weeks did in 1988-89, getting some leaguewide attention for his performance. Corey Hirsch was yet another young goalie who was supposed to come in and unseat Kirk McLean (like Troy Gamble) but nobody ever really did accomplish that. Kirk only went when Messier and Keenan were blowing up the entire team from top to bottom (Linden, Babych, Odjick, etc.). Oh and if I remember right, Jim Nill scored at least one really important goal for us in the 1982 playoff run to get to the Cup Final. At a minimum he had the double OT winner against Chicago in game 1 of the semifinal. Edited December 3, 2024 by Kevin Biestra Quote
