Colorado Avalanche defenceman Samuel Girard is entering the Player Assistance Program of the NHL and NHL Players' Association, it was announced jointly by the league and union Friday evening.

I bet it wasn't an easy decision for him to make. Best of luck to Sam in this journey, hope he gets the help he needs.

For sure. Takes more courage to admit you have a problem than not. Best of luck on your recovery young man.

I like to see when people reach out when they need help. Good for him to do it this way too.

Good for him to not only get help but make the reason public.  This is how more people take similar steps to resolve mental health issues.

Yes, agreed. Sadly, far too many don't seek help and suffer silently.

It says anxiety and depression lead him to abuse alcohol.
