  • Tocchet.A.Hockey.God changed the title to [Poll] Do we even want the Canucks to win the Presidents Trophy

The OP needs to put in a bit of effort and make a better thread.

What do the numbers say?

What percentage of President's Trophy winning teams get to the SCF?

What are the chances of winning the Cup or 3 rounds or 2 rounds or 1 round if we win the regular season?

I really just wanted to poll it and let it be a discussion point if people wanted to

If you want to do the research have at it

Since the lockout / salary cap (18 seasons) the President's Trophy winner has:

  • Won the Stanley Cup twice
  • Lost in the SCF once
  • Lost the Conference finals twice
  • Lost in the second round seven times
  • Lost in the first six times

I don't believe in any sort of curse, but all I care about is 1st in the west to get more likely favourable matchups. I don't feel like home team advantage means that much in the playoffs really. 1st in the Pacific is probably the most important.

President's trophy is meaningless to me now that we've already won it twice in our history.

That sound like a curse

Thanks for doing the home work

I think first in the Pacific is important for the Canucks especially it would decrease their travel miles in a longer series and give them better rest.

For the Finals it would only matter if it was the league leader other wise the Canucks would get it if they finish 2nd and by the final it's game on anyways

I do.  It is not the Stanley Cup but it is something.  Looks like the Presidents Trophy winner has won 8 out of 38 Stanley Cups.  That's still quite a bit better than the 1 in 16 odds that teams making the playoffs have in general, where they would only win two Cups in those 38 years.
