Garland for any of Peeke, Bean, Boqvist, DeMelo, Carrier or Fabbro would definitely be an upgrade on Juulsen. Garland (1 million retained) for most of those players would clear 1-1.5 million cap space this year. We help the other team by picking up 3 million over 3 years, and they help by taking on an additional 1-1.5 million this season. Hughes-Hronek Cole-Trade Addition Soucy-Myers Upfront would have space for Mik and Blueger while keeping Hogs in the lines up. Win-win for all involved.

PDG-Miller-Boeser seem to have good chemistry with PDG doing the forecheck and board work. Garland is not that player on a line with Petey and Kuz. They should either move Hoglander back up there, or try Joshua or Lafferty until Mik is back. Studnicka spent some time with Petey tonight but I don’t think he will be with the team once Mik is healthy. I hope the Canucks can swing a trade for someone like Peeke (I think Pesce is out of our league) and pickup someone like Coghlan NHL RD -Peeke -Hronek -Myers -Coghlan AHL RD -Juulsen -Woo -McWard

I do wonder if a team worried about losing someone on waivers would be willing to trade a player for Rathbone and/or a pick. For example, Carolina with Coghlan or Columbus with Peeke. For example: Columbus - Peeke 50% retained Canucks - Rathbone and a 3rd

If we consider defense locks as: Hughes, Soucy, Cole, Hronek and Myers, there’s just 6/7/8 left over. Irwin - nearly a full time player last year in Washington; local guy; veteran. Probably sticks around as 7/8. The challenge for the other two spots is there a lot of guys who are waiver eligible. -Wolanin -Brisebois -Juulsen -Woo -Rathbone Three of them (not accounting for what happens with Hirose or McWard) will be waived. Both Wolanin and Rathbone lean offensive on a team looking to be stronger and more physical this year, and with Hughes and Hronek ready for PP duty. Woo, Rathbone and Brisebois are all “younger” - I don’t know if any of them slip through waivers. I wonder if the Canucks keep Brisebois and Woo around, hoping that Wolanin and Juulsen clear waivers. Maybe they try to recoup a pick from a team (4th or 5th) for Rathbone, because he’s not going to get a shot at the team with Hughes already lining up as 1LHD
