  1. How many of you would be surprised that EP40 is 5th on the team in hits?

Hits are a pretty dubious stat in any event.  Zero consistancy among teams tabulating that stat (as some teams are pretty liberal in giving credit for "hits").

Plus, who would you rather be hit by in a collision?  A guy like Miller or EP?

Petey is quite a solid hitter. The boy does need to bulk up though.

@NewbieCanuckFan  I don't know about that: the reason why I even looked that up is because I've noticed EP's physical play and I was curious how he ranked.  Besides, even if there's little consistency from rink-to-rink, those inconsistencies are applied evenly to everyone on the team since I'm not comparing to players on different teams with different schedules and opponents.

To your last point: while EP may not be the heaviest hitter, I'm sure opponents would rather not get hit at all.

  2. Is there a demographic that actually likes metallic helmets?  Everyone I know can't stand LV's and LA's gold and silver ones and I literally don't understand who those helmets are marketed towards and are supposed to appeal to.

So you're saying/hypothesizing that those helmets are marketed towards that age group?

All my friends' kids are adults now (but still too young to have kids of their own yet), so I don't know anything about what young children like/dislike.

  4. Personally, I think there's some truth to that theory about forum demographics in general. Internet forums are essentially technological descendants of BBS boards (and you have to be a certain age to remember what those are) and predate "modern" social media platforms like Xitter, F-book, etc. And most younger people grew up with those platforms and likely prefer it to this format, which may be viewed as semi-anachronistic. Although it's true that there are younger people who have been members of this forum for a long time, I'd also have to say that this forum is a bit of a unicorn: not only was CDC was really the only genuinely active forum on all the official NHL team sites, but forums in general are closing down everywhere. And that says a lot about the dedication (or stubbornness, if you like) of our little community. Finally, in regards to the use of expletives on the site: well, I can tell you that at my age (well over 50+), I actually swear a lot less than I did when I was still in elementary school, so I don't really see what the worry is there.
  5. To put things simply: The "45 days" is an emergency budget measure that was passed primarily to insure government employees, including the military, continue to get their pay (I'm aware of this because a good friend's brother and his wife are a USAF officers). The holdup for the full budget, including the aid package to Ukraine, is solely due to the MAGAT Republicans who are actively working to help Putin achieve his aims by stonewalling the government funding process.
  6. Not yet, but there's still a danger he may ultimately succeed if certain politicians keep pushing for a "freeze" as a form of "peace". That's the gist of the essay: it's a warning about the consequences of the West NOT supporting Ukraine in it's goal to free itself.
  7. If you have the time to read this essay from ISW, I strongly recommend it. https://understandingwar.org/backgrounder/weakness-lethal-why-putin-invaded-ukraine-and-how-war-must-end
  8. I don't think that's entirely correct: many people "find God/religion" as adults and many of those are the more fervent than those raised in a religion. Sure, these people often do so during personal crises, but it doesn't really explain why religion is the thing they grasp onto during those crises.
  9. As a non-believer, this is the part I've never understood about those who do believe. Why do people need this strange (to me) belief?
  10. I think "argue to death" might be a poor turn of phrase, considering the thread topic (sorta kidding)
  11. Still probably gonna be mostly lurking but I figure some day I might want to actually hit 1000 posts PS. Thanks Stealth/Ribs.
