It's one of the more common occurences in sports for a new GM to acquire players they had always liked from their previous organization. It's much more rampant in MLB.

I'm glad to see it.

 

During Gillis era we avoided Russians like the plague (despite them being the 2nd or 3rd best hockey playing nation on the planet). And during the Benning era they couldn't find good players regardless of nationality, so its a welcome phenomena as far as I'm concerned.
