Canadian Men's Soccer

More games in Vancouver than Toronto, Team Canada plays twice in Vancouver, although they have the team Canada opener.  Vancouver also has two rounds after the group stage.  Will be amazing is Canada can make it that far.  We are still waiting for the first world cup game win.  This will be at home too.

And more news from the CSMNT:

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team to play Mexico in September Window

Canada Soccer, alongside the Mexican Football Federation, has announced today that Canada’s Men’s National Team will play an international friendly against Mexico in the September FIFA Window.

The match will take place on Tuesday, 10 September at AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. The match will serve as preparation for the 2024-25 Concacaf Nations League and the ongoing journey towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for which Canada will co-host with Mexico and the United States.

So, the CSA is short on money, the Women's National Team is suing the CSA Board of Directors, the Men's team still needs a permanent coach and, oh yeah, Canada is hosting and participating in some tournament called The World Cup in a couple of years.

The young guy obviously enjoys a challenge.  Good luck, Kevin!

Canada plays Trinidad and Tobago today at 1pm.

Major game.   Whichever team wins gets an entry into the Copa America tournament in June.  And, as the schedule has worked out, they will play in the opening game of the tournament against World Cup champions Argentina who have some guy named Messi who is supposed to be pretty good.

These Copa America games are the types of games that Canada needs to play in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.  You get better by playing against better competition.

Major game.

And, unfortunately, it's only available on One Soccer or Fubo.

Copa America here we come.

The importance of the game commanded attention.  Which is good because, really, this was not an entertaining game.

Canada dominated play while T&T defended en masse.  Corner kicks were 14 - 1 in Canada's favour.  But, for the first hour, it was edgy as Canada couldn't break through.  And if this was the Canada of ten years ago, this would have been the type of game that they would have lost.  But the Boys in Red came through with Lauren scoring the important first goal.  Shaffelburg scored the second in extra time.

Argentina & Messi - get ready.  Canada is coming!

Just to put a bow on things:

The US beat Mexico 2-0 tonight to win the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League tournament.

This tournament has been played three times over the past few years and the US has won all three times.

Canada has only faced France once.  France won 1 - 0 in Canada's first match of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

France is looking at a final tune up match prior to the Euros in June.  This match would help in the build up to our Copa America match vs Argentina.
