Mantha is a player that brings a unique combination of size and skill, and despite his struggles in recent seasons, we believe that he will fit into our system seamlessly and provide us with a physically imposing goal scorer. The acquisition became a necessity after a recent discussion we had with one of our franchise cornerstones Patrik Laine Laine brought to our attention that he was struggling with mental health issues, and we wanted to give him the necessary time he needs to take care of himself and his needs away from the ice without feeling a pressure to return to action. Laine will continue to be a player that we build around for years moving forward and if he needs an extended leave to be with his family back home and step away from hockey, we want to accommodate him. At age 25 he is still very young and we remain invested in him and his development long term. Mike Vanderhoek Posted February 4 Share Posted February 4 TRADE REPORT: The New Jersey Devils thank GMs @Sludge and @Caboose for the time and negotiations to complete a couple trades the end of this last week. We have had our eyes on defenseman Dylan Samberg for some time now and are thrilled to work out a couple deals to bring him to New Jersey. The Devils have received increasing interest in forward Jeff Skinner after the NHL poll last week indicated Jeff is one of the top players in the league others would like to punch in the face That can only mean his value will go up right ??? Regardless the Devils are open to exploring trade options including Jeff Skinner and will provide interested parties negotiating permission should a potential deal make sense.
