The Arrogant Worms
34 minutes ago, Gurn said: do not be surprised if those speakers don't sound quite right, to begin with. Many speakers have to be played for between 50-200 hours to 'break in'. There are only a few manufactures that will do the break in period for you. Usually it means suspending the driver from one of the mounting screw holes, on the basket, and running an alternating signal through the driver. Leaving the stereo on, low overnight, will eat up a lot of those break in hours. Few other things: If you don't have pets, small kids or have the speakers facing direct sunlight-try listening to them without the grills on. Direct sunlight will 'dry out/bleach' the driver making it brittle, quicker than it should age. You may find carefully placing electrical tape, over the possible grille mounting holes, and even on the head of the screws holding the driver in place, will change the sound. Speaker placement is a big one, usually about 8 feet apart, and the makers will recommend a distance from the back and side walls. Good starting point, but if you are slightly hearing impaired in one ear, perhaps putting that speaker a little closer to the middle will help out. Or just turn that side speaker in/out a bit. Play around with the 'toe in/toe out' angle of the speakers, this will also change the sound. If your T.V. is between your speakers, a light blanket over top of the tv, covering the glass screen might help the imaging, settle down a bit of brightness to the over al sound. For t.v./movie watching, just remove the blanket. General guideline is to get your ear close to the height of the Tweeters, can be done by adjusting the height of your chair. Hockey pucks work well as 'coasters' for chair legs. Yes...I saw a You Tube review on them. When they were 1st hooked up it sounded like they had no bass. But once broken in it was a different story. No sunlight on them .....no pets...only 1 kid who is 28 but sometimes acts 5 when he is home lol. I don't play music downstairs.....only upstairs where I can disturb the neighbours better

It would be fun to do a jam like the old X-Men (Rob Swift, Rock Raida.Mista Sinista, Total Eclipse) I'm out of practise now but i had some good technique going.

Gurn
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/check-out-this-canadian-s-incredible-phonograph-collection/ar-AA1bk0ZW?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=179df27b2ad14d9495900ff614c6b244&ei=46 "When my husband Allan reached a certain age and was contemplating retirement, I was worried about how he would keep himself busy, as he is the type who needs to be active. After visiting a friend who is into collecting phonographs, Allan became interested and the rest is history. He joined the Canadian Antique Phonograph Society (CAPS) in 2011 and his collection of phonographs continues to grow. He loves scouring garage sales, flea markets and auctions—anywhere he might be able to find and salvage a machine that is destined for a landfill due to its sad state of disrepair. Allan spends a lot of time taking the old machines apart, refinishing the wood on the cabinets and bringing them back to their original state. One part of the restoration that is particularly time-consuming is repairing the wind-up mechanism. Luckily, he has a good friend from CAPS known as the “gramophone doctor,” who supplies many of the original parts and services the motors. Over the years, Allan has managed to restore more than 50 phonographs. Just recently, he restored an Edison Diamond Disc phonograph, as well as a tabletop model for a museum in Osoyoos, British Columbia. Allan has also donated some phonographs to various museums in our area, and given others as prizes for fundraisers. At the moment, he probably has about 30 machines on display. He also has an extensive collection of vinyl records including 78s, 45s, Diamond Disc records and Edison cylinder records.
