It's been a decade but I think I'm finally able to let myself get excited for this team again. We're legit.

Always rated Zegras, I think under structure and guidance of Tocchet he could be the 2C we need to allow the lotto line to exist. If he can be had for less than market value I think we go for it, otherwise I'd rather spend assets on a shutdown defenseman that fits this core's timeline.

Will be a curious deadline. If management is eyeing next year as the first big year I’m fine with them sitting back and doing nothing, or even selling Kuzy. However, if we’re looking dominant and have a chance to make a run we need to shore up our defense. As good as our defense has looked under Tocchet’s system, the good teams that have an extra gear will dismantle our defense, Hughes/Hronek included (who IMHO ideally aren’t a pairing). We need a true defensive #2/3 dman to put us in contention status. Most of our dcore should be shifted a pairing down under ideal circumstances.

Watched him today, I feel like he’s on the precipice of being an NHL calibre player. Spending the rest of this season fine tuning his game in Abby and a solid summer should give him a great shot at the Canucks for 24-25.

Hardly instant gratification. Hoglander has shown the same weaknesses in his game since he was drafted. He’s yet to impress me at the NHL level.

Went to the game today. Probably my favourite game I’ve been to so far, felt like I was barely sitting down before I had to stand back up again to cheer! Hope the boys continue to work hard as not every team will roll over as easily as the Oilers.
