  1. successive injuries and a decreasing offensive stat line. I know his defensive metrics are solid and that’s what he’ll be paid for, but quite a few folks on CAR boards think Skjei was the stronger performer of their combo. Pesce has an injury history too. Aside from a couple seasons he hovers around the 70gp mark per. He turns 30 in Nov. all of this combined is why some fans think he may just be allowed to walk to UFA. could just be a casualty of cap space too. I should clarify im not necessarily saying he’s in decline. Just parroting some of the thoughts out there for consideration/discussion
  2. Just like EP, QH deserves a reasonable consistent linemate that can supplement their games. Enough of providing them with just satisfactory talent…it’s too much pressure on them to carry the load. I think we’re seeing EP burnout simply from him trying to do too much with too little. Kuzy might not have been what the team requires overall per player, but he did have undeniable chemistry with EP and we sent that packing. Got to be somewhat frustrating.
  3. Matvei Michkov Expected To Terminate KHL Contract, Join Flyers May 19th, 2024 at 10:02am CST • By Gabriel Foley Russian phenom Matvei Michkov is expected to terminate his KHL contract and continue his career with the Philadelphia Flyers next season, per Russia’s Sport-Express. Sport-Express adds that SKA St. Petersburg will retain Michkov’s exclusive KHL rights until 2026. This news seems to be first step towards Philadelphia landing one of their biggest prospects in recent memory. Michkov has become a sensation in Russia, coming off a season where he recorded 41 points in 48 games with the KHL’s HK Sochi – the second-most any U20 player has scored in the KHL, behind Kirill Kaprizov‘s 42-point season in 2016-17. That’s the type of company Michkov’s scoring has always earned him, similarly posting the highest KHL points-per-game from a U19 player during his time with Sochi last season, ranking ahead of Eeli Tolvanen, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Vladimir Tarasenko. Michkov has managed the strong scoring despite playing on one of the KHL’s weakest teams. HK Sochi, who operate as a feeder team for SKA, have won just 28 of their 136 games over the last two seasons, even despite Michkov raising their average goals-per-game from 2.01 to 2.47 during his time there. The meager setting served both pros and cons, allowing Michkov to emerge as a KHL team’s star but also providing him with little support. He made up for modest deployment when he was younger by absolutely dominating on the international stage. Michkov recorded 12 goals and 16 points in seven games at the 2021 World U-18 Championship – leading the tournament in scoring ahead of both Shane Wright and Connor Bedard. The tally also ranked him behind just Gavin McKenna, Alex Ovechkin, and Mikhail Grigorenko for the most a U17 player has ever scored at the event. Russia was banned from international events in the following season, limiting Michkov to friendly matches with the country’s Men’s team over the last two years. A move out of Russia should bring Michkov much more team success, especially if it’s a move to the playoff-hopeful Flyers. He’s a phenomenal player, boasting a control of the puck and ability to cut through lanes that simply seems special. Combined with a hard-nosed drive towards the net and a nifty shot, Michkov has all of the traits of a bona fide scorer. He’s proven that at every level in Russia, but now faces his biggest challenge yet in moving to the NHL. How the Flyers support their star prospect, and just how high Michkov’s ceiling can go with that support, will be among the most exciting questions as the 2024-25 season rolls around. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2024/05/matvei-michkov-expected-to-join-flyers-next-season.html#ref=home
  4. I think Tanev comes in higher than that from almost every suitor. Can see Dallas giving him 4.5-5 x 2 given what he’s brought to their D in the playoffs.
  5. We just finished paying Myers 6x6 and that deal was signed in 2019. Mind you he was UFA and that adds a premium to it, plus JB was a bit desperate. Enter 6 years later and look at comparison of career numbers. Then add inflation. Add an increase in taxable income. Also weigh in that Hronek is RFA and we’re buying his prime. It’s almost a forgone conclusion he’s going to get 7 from someone unless there is another injury lingering we don’t know about. can 7-8 mill be used to better our D and improve upon him? Perhaps. but you’re going to be paying the same for someone of similar talent level and age and pedigree. So for those thinking he’s a 6 mil player, who’s your replacement and how do you achieve it? Is it a lateral trade and with whom? Is it via UFA at inflated prices and competition and then who is that target? throwing numbers around about value really doesn’t amount to much unless you have contingency thought out to go along with it.
  6. 5.5 x 5 is top end and fair for what we need from Zadorov. It’s also not too difficult a price point to move going forward against cap increases if the relationship soured. Imho, Hronek’s top end is 7 given his trajectory has remained a straight line despite playing with QH. As mentioned I’d have wanted to see him run his own line before committing to term and MNTC at a high salary. the fact is salaries will increase and with any quality RFA we are looking at buying up UFA years which means your AAV is going to be a bit higher to do so. Look at the BUF model and paying larger sums over term for core/future pieces. That’s the way it goes now. Anybody thinking they can purchase future for yesterdays prices has their head in the sand.
  7. Win or lose, I just hope this team lays it all out on the line in game 7. Could be epic.
  8. You’re one to talk. i used to respect your posts on CDC. Sad to see you accuse people and project upon them instead of being able to reasonably defend yourself. you do you.
  9. I agree with being the creator of my own world, but the concepts of reality and existence are much different for each creature.
  10. Considering your posts I asked you what more do you want or expect from this club as you seem to be relatively dissatisfied. As much as I might disagree with some of your opinions, you’re entirely wrong about my perspective. I’m not telling you how to be a fan…I’m asking why you aren’t satisfied with what seems to be a major improvement in this club’s performance. I am being serious and genuinely asking you for a response considering you keep showing up and negating a lot of positives. If that’s gatekeeping to you then it doesn’t matter to me and have your opinion. At least I’m trying to offer conversation about it and presenting a counterpoint rather than feebly dismissing someone who might be able to enlighten me and vice versa.
  11. I wonder if we should split up the pp units and add a more physical presence in front of the net. I’d love to see Zaddy in front of skinner and causing havoc with the D trying to move him out. With the PP being so stale, at least having a big body to deflect shots or create rebounds might entice more shooting? I don’t know. Can’t score without shooting though.
  12. sounds a lot like deflection. perhaps we should put you out in front of the net on the PP. im not a gatekeeper. I just have no problem calling you out and watching you bullshit your way out of having an accountable response weak.
  13. You have watched this team rise under RT too in case you hadnt noticed. If it crumbles it doesn’t change that it took someone to build it up to where it was. Try being fair.
  14. Totally. I hear ya. But the process to get there is usually a lot more gradual, right? Just a few seasons ago there was talk to of blowing this team up and the dreaded REBUILD word. look at us now. this mgmt group has turned everything around. Draft picks, high end prospects, award winning players on a top tier team with locked in contracts of their core and some opportunities to improve the club and some cap space can be allocated to do so. This club is miles ahead. I think we’re headed in the right direction.
  15. I agree with you, but they are trying. The problem is that fans want it so bad or want to see them fail so bad that they don’t accept the reality that there is no guarantee and this team is playing at a pretty high level despite certain areas that are weaknesses. i mean, up until tonight, the Coil secondary scoring was invisible. i just think people need to have a fair and objective view. Yeah the PP sucks, and it would make a huge difference. So would EP if he could play like he did in reg season. But if it’s not going at least they are trying to make it up elsewhere and doing so admirably according to most pundits. who’s to say we won’t have a stronger team next season. We don’t know yet. Just so much negativity all the time, even when the team is seriously overachieving. Just a bit nonsensical to me.
  16. What is realistic to you? you have a team that has excelled in every aspect over their expected performance. What the fuck more do you want and why do you think it’s not good enough? Like you seem either really entitled or just sour and so stuck on an opinion that you just want to be right? 3 of our players led the league in scoring at one point this season. QH going to win the Norris. Tocchet Jack Adams finalist. Top of our division all season. we weren’t even supposed to be in the show and here we are going into game 7 of round 2 against a team expected to be a powerhouse. like really, what the fuck do you want or think you deserve?!? @stawns I hope you answer this post
  17. Hurricanes Reportedly Reach Extension With Rod Brind’Amour May 18th, 2024 at 8:14pm CST • By Brennan McClain In tonight’s Western Conference Second Round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks, Kevin Weekes of ESPN shared some news coming out of the Eastern Conference. Although not confirmed by the team, Weekes is reporting that the Carolina Hurricanes have signed Rod Brind’Amour, as well as the rest of the coaching staff, to multi-year extensions. A few weeks ago, a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger indicated that the Hurricanes had pulled an extension offer for Brind’Amour off the table, but that extension talks were advancing after the initial report. After Carolina was ousted from the playoffs at the hands of the New York Rangers, speculation began to emerge that Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes organization may be headed their separate ways. The speculation advanced so much in the last few days, that Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs would be postponing their search for head coach to see if Brind’Amour would ultimately become available. However, the report today sheds some light on the Maple Leafs’ pivot towards Craig Berubeas their next head coach. A legendary part of the Hurricanes organizational history, Brind’Amour began his coaching career as Carolina’s Director of Player Development during the 2010-11 NHL season, one year after he retired as a player. Beginning in the 2011-12 season, Brind’Amour was named an assistant coach, a position he would hold until the 2018-19 season. Taking over as the head coach at the beginning of the 2018-19 season, Brind’Amour helped turn around a Hurricanes team that experienced several years of mediocrity. In his first year behind the bench, he would coach Carolina to the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals before eventually being swept by the Boston Bruins. The Hurricanes would reach the Eastern Conference Finals once more under Brind’Amour’s reign, this time being eliminated by the Florida Panthers in another sweep. Throughout his six-year tenure as head coach for Carolina, Brind’Amour has amassed an impressive 278-130-44 in the regular season, along with three Metropolitan Division crowns. If there is one, the major drawback of Brind’Amour’s track record in Carolina is the lack of Stanley Cup Finals appearances. The Hurricanes have become one of the deeper teams on paper, but have been unable to conquer the Eastern Conference up to this point. In 74 postseason games as a head coach, Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes have only recorded 38 wins, a 10% dropoff from their regular season success. With their last Stanley Cup Final appearance coming nearly 20 years ago, the time is now for Brind’Amour to coach this team to the promised land. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2024/05/hurricanes-reportedly-reach-extension-with-rod-brindamour.html#ref=home
  18. We’re gonna have dud games. to be expected. first decent playoff run in a while. Get it out of their system this game and come back at home with their life on the line. They were the Cardiac Canucks multiple times already this season and playoffs. If they don’t have the juice for game 7 at home then perhaps they don’t deserve to go to next round. But they’ve proven a lot of people wrong already and showing a lot of promise for the next few seasons. That’s all you can ask for considering what this team was just a few seasons ago.
  19. Dude I’ve been critical of the club and not in a way that totally undercuts the positive. Go back to CDC and most folks who were regulars think (I would hope) that I post a balanced POV. Everyone is entitled to their opinion here, but for certain folks to come off now as though it’s no big deal if the club bows out, when the same certain posters have spent the entire year preying on every single minutiae where they can lay blame and project and bitch and whine and continue to do so is just blatant ignorance. It absurd and an inane comment for those of us who’ve had to listen to the incessant bullshit.
  20. The fuck you talking about? You come in every GDT and bitch about the club, majority of comments negative, but you won’t be too upset? There aren’t major holes with this club, just majorly entitled fans who follow it and can’t understand how good they’ve had it this year. Sorry, but you’re totally hypocritical.
