  1. Silovs has been good but not game-breaking. Meanwhile Demko is a proven elite goaltender. I like Silovs as much as the next fan, but I say we should play it safe and keep both of them for the time being.
  2. This is a good post, although I would argue that the housing crisis requires coordination between all levels of government now and that the federal side does have to make contributions monetarily--and probably do its best to dictate how these funds are spent such that the municipalities/provinces actually put them toward their intention. I'm someone who's highly reliant on social programs and so I'm in support of the NDP more than any other party. I understand voting in one's best interests and do get why a lot of people vote or will be voting Conservative, although I do think there are many vying to vote that way who are somewhat misled and don't realise what a Conservative government will do to them and their prospects of livelihood. If you're in a high tax bracket and can support yourself, it makes total sense to go that way, but some people aren't and probably don't quite get what/how much is going to be cut under a Poilievre rule that they rely on. They just know that they're angry and that this guy says he'll fix things. I'm not an economist and don't fully understand how national debt = bad, but I do trust that a Conservative government would be more 'responsible' in managing it. With that said, there will be a very real cost to people when those cuts are made.
  3. Minister Khera defends Canada Disability Benefit amid criticism Feds 'committed to doing more,' but minister offers no timeline for Canadian Disability Benefit boost https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/feds-committed-to-doing-more-but-minister-offers-no-timeline-for-canadian-disability-benefit-boost-1.6883122 I'm honestly very unhappy with this government right now. They raised hopes for the disabled-impoverished community and then failed to deliver anything significant to help. They said the mission of this benefit program was to lift people out of poverty, but it works out to a pittance of $200*month and is only available to people who receive the Disability Tax Credit--that is, it's only available to less than half of the total disabled demographic in the country. The Liberals had an opportunity to create a serious social program which takes meaningful action to lift millions of Canadians out of poverty, which would align with their promises in relation to the benefit, but now they're saving face by calling it a 'first step'--a first step people have been waiting years for already and one that only comes into force next July. I seriously doubt there are going to be any more steps taken here by this government before they're out. And then we'll have a Conservative rule which could not care less about bringing this program into a better state. I'm also somewhat disappointed by Singh/the NDP for supporting the budget after this farce. They did accomplish quite a bit with the pharma- and dental care and with the school lunch program, and I get that it's not an opportune time for the government to fall in the eyes of the NDP, but a lot of me really wishes that Singh put his fist down.
  4. I'm usually not one to complain about the officiating, but even I thought it was poor last game. The McDavid high stick was blatant. If that's called, I think we win the game. Per aspera ad astra... GCG! e: The Canucks are 0-8 in playoff games where Sutherland refs.
  5. Morality is objective. Philosophically it's highly difficult to demarcate a fetus from a human; and it's likewise difficult to separate potential for life from life itself.
  6. I didn't know this. Thanks. I guess progress isn't always linear. I think in a couple of decades there will be a large market for lab-grown meat. But today isn't tomorrow...
  7. but... why? does the cruelty make it taste better?
  8. MPs agree Canadian gov't should improve new disability benefit https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/canada-disability-benefit-needs-to-be-safeguarded-from-clawbacks-mps-unanimously-agree-1.6876783 Last line of the article: "The budget implementation bill to enact this benefit is currently working its way through Parliament, providing the opportunity for amendments."
  9. I wish we could celebrate advancing without using name-calling such as "Predophiles" against a team which deserves better.
  10. Yes, that was my assumption. We absolutely don't have enough capacity in terms of beds and treatment facilities to do this to even a majority of drug users, though.
  11. "incarceration with treatment" does nothing but let people with impaired empathy enjoy a bit of schadenfreude.
  12. Do you have a source that the carbon tax is driving up food costs? I recall seeing an infographic that demonstrated its effects to be negligible, but I'm open to other information. What makes you think climate policy doesn't inform the tax? Most Canadians will get more money back from rebates than they will actually spend on the tax, for what it's worth. And I think Poilievre needs to do a better job of denouncing far-right activists and groups. I don't think it's moronic to suppose that. He did get close and personal with some questionable people and hasn't said a word about it.
