  1. Given the disparity between the lineups I’m not really surprised or particularly concerned about the result. What I am more eagerly watching is if our preseason follows the path of playing a close to full nhl lineup only in the last few games or if they use more of the preseason to build the foundation for a good start to the season. Preseason may not matter on the scoreboard but look at how different teams handle it and you see patterns emerge with teams that start well.
  2. It will be a huge thing for the Canucks if Hoglander and Podkolzin can step up. That’s where the coaches need to help rebuild their confidence to do so as well.
  3. How anyone innColumbus thought hiring Babcock was a good idea is beyond me. One of the most overrated coaches ever and just by all accounts a garbage human. Columbus GM is even worse than Benning at hiring coaches.
  4. I think it made sense to move on from Pearson. That extension was trash from the minute it was signed.
  5. Shocked they actually got a deal done. I stand corrected from earlier in this thread.
  6. I’m pretty meh on this trade. Gets some cap relief which is ok. DeSmith is meh but could have been worse.
  7. It’s not just about getting under the cap. It’s about actually improving too. Hanging on to any players who have no trade value, inflated contracts, and who haven’t managed to fit in with the team is really just fear and misjudgment though, not good asset management. The Canucks should not have been a cap ceiling team for many years now based on what they actually accomplish as a team. They need a significant change to the makeup of the roster not just tinkering around the edges. They have made a few decent additions but really too many overpaid players to ever get out of the rut.
  8. Sooner or later they need to get rid of at least one winger. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Myers go but really that’s unlikely to start the season. Maybe the Canucks can offload him if they retain but I just don’t see them doing so.
  9. Except it seems no one values them enough to trade anything worthwhile for them.
  10. Exactly. Honestly it’s going to take adding a significant asset to move a salary I think.
  11. Not many teams have the cap space and apparently a guy worth a top 10 pick like Garland becomes valueless once a Canuck. Boeser, same thing. Rinse and repeat for a huge chunk of this roster. Interesting question. If the Canucks traded Hronek right now would they get what they paid? Or would it be a lesser return seemingly for the Vancouver factor?
  12. I swear I’ve heard it for like 2 years that the Canucks are aggressively trying to make a trade to clear cap but still haven’t managed to. It’s not aggressive at this point, it’s more like narcoleptic.
  13. I’m not even in this league but gotta say it’s nice to see such a legendary league migrating here.
  14. I specifically was saying Garland isn’t really the problem. He just hasn’t fit with anyone he’s played with and they haven’t fit with him. He’s a good player. He’s just not been utilized effectively and also really hasn’t stepped up himself in Vancouver.
  15. Columbus GM is just remarkably - almost comically - bad at choosing head coaches. I mean, you couldn’t be that bad if you tried.
  16. Garland to me is just yet another symptom rather than the problem. He is another example of what we saw tons through the Benning era (and to a certain degree with the new management) of building a team that has good or even serviceable players that are not reasonably complementary with each other as a group for whatever reason. We have seen lots of examples of it whether they were deployed incorrectly by coaches or were just the wrong type of player for where they were needed and expected to fit. Hoprfully that team building dynamic has changed to focus on the team for rather than the individual fit. If not, expect more of the same.
  17. I really appreciate this being set up. I didn’t post much on CDC anymore but throughout the years I really valued how much I learned from being on there. Whether I agreed with opinions or didn’t it was always really thought provoking. Sometimes rage inducing but I do think there are a ton of knowledgeable Canucks fans now because of it.
  18. I appreciate it but it’s a good time for a change I think. Plus less people might instantly hate me if I hide who I really am…….. muahahaha
  19. So many people called me WSA that I forgot my name on CDC was actually wallstreetamigo when I signed up here lol
  20. I’ll take it. good to see you bud
  21. Ok I’m on the list. Legend or no? Haha
