I get why they would sit Ian Cole...but to risk playing Hughes in this last game is a bewildering choice. If anything him and JT are the major guys you protect at this juncture of the last game of the season. Not point risking anything. THis game means nothing. Not sure its the right call to Play Hughes tonight.

[Signing] Canucks extend Podkolzin for 2 years
CRAZY_4_NAZZY replied to Visp's topic in Trades, Rumours, and Signings
Big fan of this deal. I hope Podz can show what he can do in the playoffs, the way he plays and attention to detail screams big time clutch player. He has all the tools and hockey IQ to be a complete 200 foot player. -
Nashville may be undergunned on their roster but the one big advantage they do have is that they have a lot of playoff proven veterans that exceeds our team's experience. Canucks going to have to stay composed, Nashville's special teams are strong and they have shown they can really strike quick. Im hopeful for a good series, but Nashville won't go down without a fight. They also acquired a lot of speed over the TDL and have a very physical team. Cole Smith, Mike McCarron, Mark Jankowski up front are punishing and have Luke Schenn and Jeremy Lauzon (who just set the NHL hit record in a seaosn with 383). I can see their physicality wear some of our more skilled players down.

Seems like Dhaliwal was correct...we lost his rights last summer. Probably can close this prospect thread now.

Only saw 2 live games in which he played. Largely looked like he trying to find what his niche was in the game. Often paired with Chase Wouters and Ty Glover, who primarily play a grinding type of game and he mostly spent time on the wing, where he is naturally a center. Colliton seems to be interested in developing him as a forechecker, which makes sense because I don't know if Dmitri has defined enough skills to be a legitimate center in the NHL. Its quite telling though that lately Colliton has been rolling a 11/7 lineup and often seeing Zlodeyev on the outside looking in. I think they are trying to rebuild his game.

I watch the Ottawa vs New Jersey game a few weeks Tkachuk was a menace. He hit everything that moved, I think a league record of 16 hits I think? he also had two goals, and was willing Ottawa in all three zones into the battle. I would be willing ot risk our top pieces like Lekkerimaki and Willander to get Tkachuk. His breed is so rare, if there is a remote chance he is available you go after it.

Capfriendly suggests his rights are still held by Vancouver, but could be interesting if he isn't.

Pick your poison - McDavid or Mackinnon. The defining factor is seeing Arizona/Utah more often vs Calgary who is stuck in that mushy middle. Arizona as they showed have a lot of promise to come. I prefer the old alignment tbh, IMO makes more sense to leave Colorado and Utah in the old division alignments. I like having Edmonton and Calgary as our rivals.

I wonder if SIlovs gets re-signed not to a 1-2 year deal but the Canucks attempt at a contract closer to what Pyotr Kochetkov got from Carolina last summer ( 2 mil x 4 years) betting on him to be a bigger part of the team in the future and securing some cost certainty for several years. Silovs has shown a good level of competency but also areas where he needs to grow, but I do wonder if they bet on him a bit here. Having a consistent backup would help this team instead of switching one every season.

Great career for him. I remember the year Anton Rodin, Calle Jarnkrok and Jakub Silfverberg were drafted and formed the dynamic Brynas IF line - I said to myself Silfverberg is the one to have the biggest impact in the NHL. Very much has. I remember at the start of the year, there was talk that he was thinking of retiring and not coming back to his last year of the contract to go back to Sweden. Makes sense he is calling it on his terms. Always had a soft spot for him.

[PGT]Canucks vs Golden Knights - April 8th, 2024
CRAZY_4_NAZZY replied to MikeyD's topic in Canucks Talk
We bent early, but man the ability to comeback was psychologically the win at the right time. This team needed this win against this team in this way in a deep way. I liked how we responded after being down 2 in the first half of the first period. Lets launch of this now and use it as a spring board to push towards bigger things. This win was deeply encouraging.
