DownUndaCanuck Posted February 28 Share Posted February 28 If we break it down, Jack is probably worth more than Petey. Bargain 8M contract, only 22, already scoring at a 100pt pace but arguably not as strong defensively as Petey. Luke is already playing 20 minutes a night, a future top pairing defenceman, putting up some points but getting decimated defensively. We're talking an already-1C and future 1LD very soon (maybe within a year). So Jack is probably worth Petey + solid prospect (think Raty, Podkolzin, maybe Lekkerimaki even). Luke is hard as there aren't many young defencemen getting traded around the league these days. You could argue Provorov/Chychrun/Hronek are nice examples but they're all older and more in their prime and not as good as Luke but also a bit more proven. Based on them I'd say Luke's value is a high 1st + top prospect (or another 1st) + player. We don't and won't have a high first (unless we deal with another team) but could give them Willander + pretty much anyone on our roster who they want (say Garland, Blueger, Suter, Zadorov but they'd probably want Hoglander who has more value). We have to probably give up a 2nd as well on top of all that So... TO NJD: Pettersson + Podkolzin + 1st + Lekkerimaki/Willander + Hoglander + 2nd TO VAN: Luke + Jack Basically decimates depth and futures for two stars. I guess it depends on if it's Willander or Lekker but surely NJD would want defencemen back. It's a good deal if it makes you really question it and that amount of value is decent.
