Fill your Nucklucks! [Proposal]

Since I've been arguing about this I'll try again to explain. Suter has been huge value in the top 6 statistically he has been a far more efficient line partner for Miller than Pete. Pete needs to run his own line. The lotto line is an inefficient use of personel. Our PP is garbage that sucks and it's frustrating as hell to watch. Maybe we sign Kessel as some kind of quasi Vanek  light PP specialist. But the reality is it's on the boys. Our PP has a ton of firepower and they have to execute. Forking over huge amounts of assets for Guentzel IMO would be diminishing returns. There are no extra points for winning 5-2 vs 3-2 or 2-1. We are solidly one of the top scoring teams in the league. Our teams biggest flaw is high danger shots against and shot blocking where we are near the bottom of the heap. Demko is a vezna caliber goalie and is the difference between us being where we are in the standings and a wild card team. Our defence group is solid  what we need is a fwd who's calling card is shot suppression. Reducing our high danger shots against IMO would pay more dividends than increasing our scoring prowess.

My prime target would be Beck Malenstyn. The price would be significantly less than acquiring Guentzel. He (Malenstyn) is among the very best in the league at shot supression and a premier PK'er who is young 26 cost controlled and fit's out core timeline.

To the Caps 2025 2nd + a prospect Karlsson or similar value.

To Van Beck Malentsyn 6'3 200lbs

Becks stats.

I agree that Suter has actually proven he is a better fit with Miller-Boeser than EP40 is. So I'm totally on board with not reuniting the Lotto line and agree it is better to utilise EP40 on his own line.

The issue is who do we put together with Pettersson? Hoglander seems a good fit, but neither Mikheyev or Lindholm seems to have chemistry. Suter fits anywhere, but might be best with Miller. Any trade for another top 6 forward is definitely an attempt to find a running mate for EP. Guentzel or Toffoli would be awesome but both will cost significant assets. I can't see how we coudl afford to resign Guentzel, so he's probably a pure rental. Toffoli might be more affordable to resign but he's older and do we want to resign him?

I can't help but feel like we didn't give Lindy enough time to make it work with Petey prior to the TDL. Ideally a top 6 of Hogs-EP-Lindy and Suter-Miller-Boeser would be working by now!

Once Joshua returns, where would you see Malenstyn fitting into our roster?

Suter Miller Brock

Hog Pete Pod I'm here for it. I hope it's tried. Could Pete be a mentor? I think we can get them some pretty prime ice.

Dak Blueger Garland don't touch it.

Malenstyn Lindholm Mikheyev" sit down shut up and listen line".

Another suggestion would be

Lafferty Pete Mikheyev they've been very good together.

I would love to see 4 lines each with an identity depending on the game situation could be the go to line. Instead of hard matching Miller maybe there's more to be gained by getting our top 6 fewer and better quality minutes.

I like those suggestions, perhaps Podkolzin could be Petey's new triggerman and Hoglander's got the wheels for Petey to spring loose on stretch passes.  That could also become a defensively responsible and secondary offensive unit to support the Miller line.

-Put Suter on that Lindholm line

-Put Petey on Miller/Brock

-Lafferty or maybe even Raty between Hog and Podz

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser (Sc1)

Mikheyev-Lindholm-Suter (shut down)

Joshua-Bluegar-Garland (Sc2)

Podkolzin-Lafferty-Hoglander (Hogs consistently producing and driving this line just as he has all year).

Hughes-Hronek

Soucy-Myers

Cole-Zadorov

Juulsen

Demko

DeSmith

This is and was my vision of this team when we initially traded for Lindholm but management (and the fans) decided to turn heel on me it seems.

We can call up Raty can we not?  This is what I am talking about Gary.  😛

The whole point is to have 4 lines that can each be the go to line on a given night depending on the circumstances of the game. a first line and 3 2b's.

parking Hog and Pod on what can only be called a 4th line with Lafferty or Raty is not putting them in a position to develop. I think if we balance our lineup we can shelter Hog Pete Pod so they can dunk on weak competition. If teams try to counter by putting stronger competition out against them Miller and Garland lines will feast. Having Lindholm run a pure shut down line takes those duties off of Millers plate opening up opportunities for him to play more agressive. 4 lines on any given night could play 20 mins is the goal for longevity in the playoffs.

Paying $11.6 million to Petey so that he can avoid tough match-ups and 'dunk on weak competition?'

I'm not sure about that.

I think we might need Petey to do a bit more than that.

Not really like you said we're paying Pete 11.6m it doesn't make sense to run a 20million 2nd line. We won't have the money to balance the roster. He is going to have to develop chemistry with some cost control wingers like Miller has Suter and Garland has Dak, Blueger. Pete need's to start making the people around him better. Not expecting better people around him. He hasn't seemed to be able to develop any chemistry with anyone he's play'd with this year. It would seem it's less of a personel problem than a Pete problem. Hoglander and Pod have the attributes to create a potent line with Pete but lack the experience.

Suter Miller Brock is a top 3 line in the league. 16.25m

Honestly yes we should be trying to get Pete away from top defenders We should always be trying to find ways to get skilled players favorable matchups.
