The Canucks have just made another major trade. However this one carries a lot of risk, and they paid a hefty price. There's no doubt if Nikishin comes over Vancouver fans will forget about all the pieces they've lost. This kid is legit, and can play any style of hockey you want. He can play the physical game, or the skilled game, and do both at a very high level. However, the Canucks just acquired Olen Zellweger & David Jiricek within the last few weeks. So it leaves fans wondering if this major overpayment was worth it. They already had 4 very talented D prospects in Zellweger, Jiricek, Nemec, and Gulyayev in the system. When asked about it GM Gator had this to say: "Look, when you have the opportunity to add a defender with this kind of talent you just do it. I mean within reason of course. It sucks to lose some of those pieces for sure, but thats the business of our game. You have to bite the bullet sometimes and make these tough decisions. I truly believe this group will be ready to compete in 2-3 years, and Nikishin may be that piece that helps put us over the top. Every trade has their risks. Some more than others. We feel this was a risk worth taking. If he does come over he's going to be a difference maker. There's no doubt about it to me. He is that good... And if he doesn't, I'm sure I'll hear about this trade for many years to come." Well it looks like Canuck fans will be anxiously awaiting the Nikishin decision. If he doesn't come over GM Gator may be looking for a new GM job. Possibly in the KHL with Nikishin. In all seriousness though, I like the team being built there. A lot of solid young players coming up. Will be a very interesting team to watch develop over the next few years. Whether this trade pans out or not I'm sure the Canucks will be fine. For now I think we should all just leave GM Gstor alone. Save our judgement for later, and let's see how this all unfolds.
