gwarrior Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Hope this kid pans out, I really do. Because at some point, we will need a succession plan for if Demko moves on. Quote

GrammaInTheTub Posted September 25, 2023 Author Posted September 25, 2023 (edited) I’m very hopeful for him and his development. If my aging brain serves me correctly, Ian Clark was one of the biggest advocates for drafting him. Hopefully this means he liked what he saw in Young during camp. You have no idea what the future might hold. He may look to move on once he hits UFA status. Or injuries might completely derail his career. 2) Silovs is young and has yet to prove anything at the NHL level beyond a handful of games. Goalies development arcs are notoriously difficult to predict. As such it's important to keep the pipeline full of promising prospects. 2 Quote

Snoop Hogg Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Wonderful. Now start signing guys whose rights will expire. Quote
WHL rocks Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 Like this kid. Big kid, was 6'3 when he was drafted at 17yrs old. Must be an inch taller by now. Hopefully a future starting goalie for us. Quote

Silovs 1) demko will be 30 in 3 years.. i've said it back then when markstrom was 30.. goalie tend to start regressing once they hit 30.. not that many maintain an elite level past 30.. those that do usually been elite their entire career.. and Demko is not. 2) Silovs is far from a sure thing.. it's not like he's lighting it up in the AHL.. he's like 20th in sv% in the AHL.. he had a couple of decent games in the nhl and we are ready to call him the successor lol. Aside from playing very well in those few games, Silovs literally just won the MVP and stood on his head in that last IIHF tournament. He became a hero to his nation. I think he is a wee bit higher in his ability to play than you give him credit. Quote

He hasn't proven anything at the nhl level yet, AND, goalie trajectories are very difficult to predict. Look at how many U20 goaltending heros never make a significant impact in the NHL. I'm not saying he won't eventually be a great starter. Only that you need to hedge your bets and keep quality prospects in tbe pipeline in case he doesn't develop as hoped Quote
