[discussion] forward pairs in the bottom 6

As we ice a more NHL calibre lineup in games 4-6, what duos should anchor our bottom six?

Suter-Garland have the potential to form a two way, depth scoring line.

Blueger- Beau seems rich for a 4th line, but do they compliment each other?

Given Blueger’s  strong showing in Edmonton, do you want him paired with a more defensive winger?

I wouldn't mind seeing as a 3rd Line

DiGiuseppe - Blueger - Hoglander

I think they'd be fast, aggressive

Haven’t considered that combo…interesting

Our 4th line will be Blueger and the 2 penalty killing wingers that Tocchet likes the best.

Blueger - PDG makes sense as a pairing in either scenario.

I like Blueger, Beau and Garland, they have tenacity and skill to play our third line for added offence, however, I am not convinced Boeser stays in the top six TBH.

Garland or Beau may find them selves playing higher in the line up at some point of the season.

I think a couple of big wingers and Suter round out the fourth line.

Assuming Hoglander is on the top line while Mikheyev is out...

Hoglander-Pettersson-Kuzmenko

Podkolzin-Miller-Boeser

Beauvillier-Blueger-Garland

PDG-Suter-Joshua

Aman

If Podz doesn't blow the coaches hats off in the final preseason games, he'll be in Abby. He hasn't been good at all.

Hogs - Petey - Kuzy

PDG - Miller - Boeser

Beau - Suter - Garland

Joshua - Blueger - Aman

good compliment of scoring wingers with our best 2 way center…so you think TB will win the 3C spot?

agreed on Podz, and there’s no risk in sending him down.  Would rather take a long patient look at Högs since he’s waiver eligible.

so you see Suter - Garland and Blueger - Joshua as the bottom 6 pairs?

I do. I could see PDG and Beau moving up and down the bottom six, as well as Brock and Kuzy up and down the top six.

PDG and Beau definitely seem like moveable parts.

Wonder if Joshua has responded well enough to earn a job / part of a pairing. He makes sense with Blueger on a checking line and on the PK.

hoglander and podkolzin have done nothing to stick with the team nor have they shown any offensive capability to be on the top 2 lines in the preseason.. hoglander if anything dragged the EP line down in his first game with his decisions in the offensive zone passing instead of shooting etc. if those are our top 2 lines we are probably gonna see more like last night with the offensive struggles.. hoglander and podkolzin are not top 6 players at this point of their progression and they kinda weigh down the offence.

for me, it's;

kuzmenko... pettersson... (hard to play against winger)

mikheyev...miller... boeser/ beauvillier

PDG...suter...garland/hoglander

joshua...blueger...studnika/aman

Cheers Joe.

While Mikheyev will improve any line, I am intrigued by putting him with Miller. As others have mentioned, he’s like an upgraded PDG there, making it a better matchup line, and freeing up PDG for the bottom six.

don't really have ideal lineup but beauvillier and garland prolly should be in the top 6 before hoglander and podkolzin until mik is back and then u can have hoglander podkolzin or whoever shows they are better on the defensive side and willing to crash and bang on the 3rd/4th line for the time being.. hoglander will prolly be on the team by default because i don't see them risking him on waivers.. someone will take him for free.  hoglander can take garlands spot on the 3rd line. at least beauvillier and garland shows more offence than podz and hogs at this point

Yeah I watched him last year in Vegas and he did seem like a great checking center but his play here he seems to have more jump and the ability to generate more offense with his speed and smarts. Thats why I would like to see him with Beau and Garland , two others who have speed and the smarts to create offensive plays.

So load the top 6 with our most skilled wingers, like this?

    Beau - Petey - Kuz

Garland - JTM - Boeser

Then surround these 3 with the most physical defensive wingers?
(eg. PDG, Joshua, Studnicka,Åman)

                Suter - Höglander

               Blueger

Awesome. I like that it’s an intentional identity for that line, speed and smarts.

When Blueger was originally signed, he was pencilled in as 3C. After seeing him in Edmonton, I can picture it.

Teddy is good. So us Suter. Our bottom six looks good. 105 points. We are going to be Gillis great!

All I know is that I really loved Blueger's game the other night. I wanted him centering a third checking line but that's looking like it may be Suter's line. Definitely want him with a good defensive winger. Do we have any of those or did we make a trade I missed? 🤔

I think the internal candidates are Joshua, PDG or Åman. Ideally, we’d trade for a more proven, physical PK specialist like Yakov Trenin.
