Why would they?

Tocchet said he wanted big mobile D men like Vegas so PA went out and got him one. Why would they swap him for a much smaller less physical Tanev? Makes no sense.

I know.Beautiful Vancouver media guys

If he can score 14 goals from the backend on an annual basis, while playing well defensively, then yes, I'd give him that deal.

If he scored 14g fairly regularly and played well he would get a lot more than 4m from a team tho

Jim said on Dali podcast ,they are not trading Zadorov

He actually said "no we have not been shopping Zadorov". That could mean they have had discussions with other teams, shopping is when you put out the word to all the team that you are looking to move a player.

But our media reported that Zadorov is on trade block. If you are on trade block, that sound shopping.

They would have no real reason to trade Zadorov that would make sense. Replacing Zadorov with Tanev makes the team weaker overall. Sure, Tanev is a really smart and calm player who thinks the defensive side of the game extremely well. So is Soucy though, and he's already under contract. Tanev is nearing 35, still totally injury prone, and way smaller and less imposing than Zadorov.

If Tanev can be added without losing Zadorov, I'm all for it. Otherwise, best to wait for Soucy to return.

National media was in on it too. You know that Alvin didn't tip his hand, you know Milstein didn't say anything.

It was obviously chatter amongst other NHL GM's. I'm sure his name has come up, but as Rutherford said "they aren't shopping him"

Tanev has more defensive awareness in his 7 remaining teeth than Zadorov has in his entire giant body. If you are talking about making the team better Tanev would do that without a doubt. If you are talking about the team being weaker in a bench press contest than yes.

There is a reason why Tanev was higher up the lineup than Zadorov. There is also a reason that the flames want a 1st for Tanev but took a 3rd and 5th for Zadorov.

Not sure the analysis is on the mark, big Z has been great for us. But yes Tanev would be a nice add for us, had we not blown the wad on Lindholm.

Id like to see a big frame winger added now if at all possible.

And the team already has Soucy, who as previously mentioned covers off the team's need for defensively responsible defenseman, as does Cole. No need to spend assets on a defenseman who's skill set is already covered. Zadorov provides a very specific skill set that teams need come playoff time Tanev doesn't provide regardless of your hyperbole.

The main reason Conroy is looking for a 1st is because of the trade market, and the already known interest that teams have in Tanev. If Zadorov was still a Flame and made available for trade right now, Conroy would be asking for very similar returns, especially considering how much more injury prone Tanev is. As well, the Canucks were the only team that was willing to take all of Zadorov's salary, which lessened the cost. If Calgary had to retain on his salary, the ask would have been much higher.

Yep. Z's price today is likely a 2nd and prospect or late 1st.

Come on man! If Zadorov could fetch a 1st round pick he would have been traded yesterday.

Apparently the ask for Zadorov was only a 3rd rounder but we had to pay a 5th on top for them to deal with us.

not necessarily. As other teams make moves, GMs have to keep up with the arms race. I could absolutely see Toronto coughing up their 1st.

You do realize that a team has to want to trade the player in order to fetch a return, right? Maybe, just maybe hockey teams like having players like Zadorov on their bluelines.

Yup, with the added context that acquiring Zadorov when they did seemed to help the team out of the mini-slump they were in.

Ya after Soucy got injured Canucks were win 1 lose 1 mode until the Zadorov trade. When he came in the team went on a tear and hasn't looked back..

Its not his stats it's the total package he brings that's helped the team so much..

I don't see a scenario where they trade him.  It's just nonsense clickbait by certain media types.

He may leave as UFA in the summer but he's a big part of this team and if we make a deep run he'll need to be a big part of the team's success.

Yup. Big, mean, tough, hard to play against, skilled, great skating, 250 pound D don’t just grow on trees.
We will 100% for certain extend Z. We will extend Joshua too. And it’s obvious why to those who understand the game.
